ok so i got 92 lude and got two weird sounds hoping since its the weekend and no mech stores are open mabye one of u can help me

first sound is sounding like a loose plastic piece comming from the front right side wheel everytime i go over a bump or mostly a divet in the road

and 2nd sound is an engine sound (sounds like somthings loose) coming from the front of the engine where there is that hand symbol that says hot on it but its almost like theres a loose valve or mabye a spark plug broke off ....idk (friend said that)......

2ndgenlude
if a spark plug "broke off" your car would barely run. so count that out. as for the plastic sound its probably your splash guard coming loose. not a big deal, easy fix. the engine sound i would have to hear to give you a idea of what it is. could be as simple as a valve adjustment. or as bad as a head job. is it a ticking noise?

whitespike22
yeah a mild ticking noise ....

whitespike22
well actually not rly ticking u know when ur motor or pistons are turning sounds like when the pistons comeback after rotation its hitting something ...i think lol

2ndgenlude
probably the valves out of spec. but like i said its hard without hearing it. next meet i could take a look for you.

whitespike22
thats like a week from now...lol im a very paranoid person lol

2ndgenlude
lol, we could do a wednesday meet or something again. or if you have a vid camera make a video and post it. that would be enough.

whitespike22
no no camera ...lol

whitespike22
oh and the plastic sound sounds more under the car or in the wheel well then the splash guard

whitespike22
gawd wish i had a repair manual on this car like my last one lol

2ndgenlude
could be your skid plate too. they tend to fall off after awhile. anyways i wouldn't worry about the plastic noise. unless it gets worse of course. as for the engine if it still runs good with no CEL's you should be good to go. i might be able to take a look tomorrow if your free. what part of town are you in?

whitespike22
im in the west end near callingwood

2ndgenlude
shit. other side of town from me lol. i might be able to make it over there tomorrow afternoon though. i will give you a call.

whitespike22
alright sweet yeah u got my number lol

redwall177
hey man i live in the westend if you have any problems come see me

Prudz_lude
I can't believe you didn't pick that up tyler lol. Prelude engines have a very noisy valve problem. H22's specifically have it the worse. Even after valve lashes they are still pretty noisy. You should hear mine. Just sounds like clickity click click click. Same with my old one right after a timing belt job and valve lash.

2ndgenlude
lol, i know. i havn't looked at it yet. i will tonight. my engine sounded like a diesel with out of spec valves. i just had a adjustment done and its still noisy. that was my #1 guess, but its impossible to diagnose without hearing it.

Prudz_lude
true, if they are out of spec they will be noiser but even after a valve lash they are still pretty noisy.

I have 2 suggestions.

1.) Don't Call redwall.

2.) Make sure there's enough oil in the car. The valves might be ticking because of low oil.

dont listen to mike he is so full of himself hahaha

mike3
Haha it's just fun to piss on your brain matt.

whitespike22
not oil lol just got my oil changed a week ago....

redwall177
of course you like to make matt mad haha

2ndgenlude
well i went to see it. definately isn't the common honda valve tick. sounds like piston slap almost, but ive never seen that in a stock motor. its weird due to it sounding like its in the head when its cold, then sounds like the bottom end when warmed up. valves could definitely use a adjustment and im sure that would help. its also coming from around #1 cylinder. drivers side is quiet. just sounds like a knock once warm, but not as noticeable when cold.

Prudz_lude
time to piece together an h22 setup

NathanRed
says the guy selling the pnp and head haha

Prudz_lude
if he wants it for $600 it is all his. I now a guy selling an h22 block for $250 plus shipping from the states. Use the tranny you have in the car right now or buy a new one for $400-500 off honda-tech and there you go. Just need a about $400 in other random parts and you are good to go.

whitespike22
but i need some to install it right? and how much we looking at here prudz.... total hit me with the digits!

Prudz_lude
i can't commit to installing it for you. I know that if everyone in the club helped it could be done in a week. Probably about the same time it would take a shop to do it. I would just help you out just for the hell of it. It wouldn't be hard to do at all honestly. I pulled my engine in 4 hours. another 4 to install i would suspect.

The only issue with you is it is an automatic so if you wanted to do a 5 speed swap you would have to find a 5 speed swap plus the tranny. Swaps go for about $200 for all the parts plus $500 on average for the transmission.

h22 5spd

$700 swap/trans
$300 block
$300 head
$400 gaskets/timing belt/water pump/oilpump from honda (a must from honda don't cheap out on those parts)
$200 IM,FPR,FR,TB,Injectors
$100 ECU
$75 dizzy

looking at $2075 ish if you want my upgraded brand new head add another $300. I put the price of a head with about 150,000km on it.

without the manual swap you are looking at $1375 so much cheaper to remain auto but if you are pulling the engine you honestly should just go 5spd.

Is this your DD? that is what really makes the difference. for me i am waiting until winter and then parking my car. I have time to collect cheap parts and then not worry about driving it so my time frame for the swap is about 6 months. If it is your DD it makes the time frame extremely tight and doesn't allow you to really search for cheap parts.

My personal advice is just start saving money on the side of your spending money. Drive your motor until it is dead. When it is finally done then you will have money to swap it out. No need to stress over a sound. Start stressing when it won't run lol. Your motor should still last a few months. Just go get a valve lash adjustment.

NathanRed
h22 plus 5 speed swap ftw

redwall177
OR go FASTER CAR HAHAHAHA

2ndgenlude
pfff...preludes are the fastest things on the planet. didn't you know that? and telling someone to buy another car in a prelude specific forum isn't going to get you anywhere fast lol.

whitespike22
so talked to some guys at my wrk and since i went and got an oil change and added some oil stabilizer( thick substance) he says that may be the problem that since its japanese it has a hard time with that stuff so he suggested to go get my engine rinsed and new oil and then valve adjustment......

oh an nathan RHD h22 5 speed swap FTW!

and another thing is right now its my only car atm....was thinking about sometime soon getting a 06-08 car so that i can have a car to drive to wrk and such and just makin my lude a summer car.....either that or getting like a old car for winter and wrk car but only problem is no warrenty, and no gaurentee...... but defin want another car for that purpose then yeah...wat u think?

NathanRed
thats a good call im going to buy a new car or beater for the winter as well

2ndgenlude
thats what i did :)

whitespike22
not all of us can afford a brand new civic SI!!! well i could probably but it get trashed driving to wrk...

2ndgenlude
lol. financing FTW. intrest is low right now too. if you do 4 years its only 0.9%. 1.9% 5yr. basically using the banks money for next to nothing.

whitespike22
yeah can probably get one got a raise at wrk ! lol

Prudz_lude
beaters are reliable. You can pick up a civic hatch for 2k for the most part, i got mine for 2k and it ran like a champ. Just changed the plugs, wires, fluids and it fired up everytime even in -40 weather this year WITHOUT the block heater even plugged in.

redwall177
what you talking about tyler i did it way easier look at you trying to make yours fast all the problems

whitespike22
anyone going to car audio gone wild tonight?

NathanRed
just came back from it, total waste of time, good deals on rims and tires but not really anything else same prices as were before the sale

whitespike22
yeah thats all i want from there is rims lol

Prudz_lude
put your jdm rims on honda-tech cody. You could easily get a solid $600 for them. Maybe more if you include the rubber. Probably about $7-800 dollars.

whitespike22
i will after i get them lol went there today and all they had were gay 20-22" rims all gay to but gotsome under glow and some HID lights..... now gotta figure how to install em lol

2ndgenlude
underglow.....come on now lol. but i guess if its what you want :p
underglow is the epitome of rice though. hid's will look good though :)

whitespike22
def wat i want lol anyone know how to install HiDs?

2ndgenlude
hid's are pretty easy to install. im guessing you have a conversion kit with ballasts and everything? i just installed them into my civic, and it went good. i could help you out.

NathanRed
damn cody you bought underglow, i could of sold you mine lol for cheap

whitespike22
yea got ballasts lol and underglow i got 7 color L.E.Ds for 90 bucks.....sale fromm 350...
