Volk Cleaning 101 - Click HERE for Original Thread

AuZZZie
Anyone that's owned volks/annodized/clear coat wheels know what a cunt they can be. Especially in a city like this.

Personally I think Volks should come with instructions, cause had I known what I know now, my wheels would still be perfect. There not far off but they take alot of care and it would have been nice to start from day #1.

Anywho, here is my new process. The clear coat on volks, especially annodized ones is super finicky. Even if most products say clear coat safe most will still eat the volk clear coat.

My products used:

P21S Gel Wheel Cleaner
P21S Total Auto Wash (Citrus based. Keep of lips, clear coat)
Poorboys Wheel Sealant
Meguiars Clay Bar/Lube

Step 1.
Rinse Wheels down with the hose under pressure. Remove all the crap.

Step 2. Spray down entire wheel with P21S Gel Wheel Clearner. I let it sit for around 15min, more if there really dirty. This stuff is safe on your lip clear coat.

Step 3. Rinse Gel Wheel Cleaner off throughly after set time.

Step 4. Get a Medium bristtle brush and a toothbrush. Spray P21S Total Auto Wash on the rear lips and scrub like a muther. Use a toothbrush for the hard to get spots.

Do this in small sections rinsing off the entire wheel often. Overspray or dripping can't be avoided and the cleaner is citrus based so you don't wan't to let it sit on your clear coat/lips.

Step 5. Work your way around until your done then rinse wheel off completey again.

Step 6. Leave the wheels wet and spray your clay bar lube around the lip. Work the clay bar around obviouslly using clean sections of the clay as it dirties. This removed ALOT of shit for me.

Step 7. Rinse wheel after claybaring to remove lube etc.

Step 8. Dry wheel with microfiver towel then set aside. There will always be some drips you can't get so I let it dry off while I work on the next wheel before applying the sealant.

Step 9. Once try Spread the Poorboys Wheel Sealant around the wheel and face. Spread it even and let it sit till it hazes then buff off. I also do the rear lip so the shit that builds up there comes off easier as once the wheels are back on it's hard to get too.

Poorboys is by far the best sealant I've used. Wheel wax is good but an absolute cunt to apply/remove. Poorboys goes on easy and comes off even easier.

Step 10. Never drive your car for fear of dirtying your 7 hour process wheels.

Thanks mate. Sometime I wonder why I bother since this city is so dirty. But it's always worth it once you see the finished product.

Word jayson.. i like knowing i'm not the only person who is this picky about their stuff. My works will get a full day also for this after i send em to egberts. May i ask who you used to put your tires on after you got them refinished?

I'm super picky man. Ask Aaron. I'm always pointing out scratches he says don't even exist.

I didn't dismount for this process but if you mean in the past I used Tire Warehouse North. I just made sure to make some comments about scratching etc so they knew I would be checking the wheels when i picked them up.

Egberts is awesome. I just wish they could dismount/mount themselves. Would be alot easier.

Yea i meant in the past.. i just don't wanna deal with some douchebags who can't put tires on properly after i just get them refinished... tires also have to be stretched on. Also i may add.. alot can be said about a person by how they take care of their vehicle. They should sticky this.

My SUV has some huge lips on the rims, and it seems has if dirt just loves to collect on it right between the spokes. Such a bitch to keep clean or even clean.

Very good write up, I will have to use it!

Impressive work man!

Do you do that on a regular basis?

I only do mine like that once a year when I take the summers off for the winter since they are off anyway. And I usually find a big sponge works great for cleaning the back of the wheels really fast.
