Just wanted to throw this out there. I am running BFG drag radials on my honda, put them on last season, stored the car all winter, and brought it out this year again. I just washed it and noticed that both tires are showing visible splitting in the rubber on the sidewall.
I have NEVER seen this happen in any tire, ever........just wondering if anyone has seen a drag radial split?
BFG's website says to go to a dealer and follow a warranty claim, but i bought them on tirerack. Is anyone familiar with how long a warranty claim through (for example) tire warehouse might take? I have another set of g force tires to put on for now, but I will miss the traction offered by these drag radials.
Any info would be appreciated!

| Did you store them outside... soft rubber compounds don't like to be frozen! |

Wow...this is very odd Duane. I've never heard of this before. Have you contacted Tirerack?

I had drag radials on my supra when I bought it and the inside sidewalls were both cracked so I had to buy new tires to pass OOP.

| Usually doesn't happen with tires only a few months old, but it's not uncommon for tires in our environment to get some weather cracking. |

I should also say, minor splitting isn't a cause for concern. Tires are broken down by the sun over time and by heat (driving), it causes the color to fade, the rubber to harden and small cracks in the sidewall. If you cannot see cords, you are fine. Look at the tires in your average parking lot, 40% of the tires will have some visible breakdown.
I would still bitch about it though, If you put them on last season they shouldn't be cracking yet. How many runs are on them... wait g-force... you are daily driving on drag radials? |

You obviously don't know what Duane is running for a motor. :p
And It wouldn't really be 'Daily'.. More like 'Weekendly' If you will.. |

I took them to tire warehouse and the BFG rep was called to decide on the warranty aspect. The drag radials come with barely any tread.....4-5 32nds tread depth and if it is less than a 16th left then they are beyond warranty. So they won't do anything for me. :(
I could still run them for a bit this summer I think. They haven't swapped the tires yet so I could just run the tread down to the cords.
The inside of one of them is quite cracked. Looked at it after I took them off and wow.....cracked all the way around, but no I cannot see cords.
So my question,
Is there a huge concern running drag radials with small surface cracks any longer than I have? I don't want to replace them yet, and I certainly don't want to go back to my kdw's. It is daily driven in the summer, just shy of 400whp.
Yes, I drive daily on drag radials. No problems yet, and no they were not exposed to freezing temps, and car was stored on jackstands, as always.

In all honesty Duane, I think you would be fine. I highly doubt they would blow out on you.
Do you have, or can you take a pic? I'm curious to see exactly how they look.

I would run them, I've ran corded rears before for a week when I was waiting for rubber, not the smartest thing but they held up fine for the time being.
minor cracks=no worries esp if they hold air fine. |
