Nissan has been working on their own compact RWD car too OMFG!!!

AUTOBLOG

"Nissan is planning to utilize a shortened version of the Z's FM platform powered by either a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter or possibly a 1.6- or 1.8-liter turbocharged four. According to the Japanese pub, the successor to the S15 Silvia will be approximately 4,350 mm long, 1,750 mm wide and share the same wheelbase as the Z. Like the Subaru/Toyota vehicle, Nissan is attempting to keep the curb weight low, along with the price."

This will be an awesome ride, can't wait :D

UPDATE!

So it looks like there is a rumour that the RWD nissan maybe a Hybrid......what a stupid idea.

We've been obsessively following the developments surrounding Nissan's rumored re-entry into the compact, RWD market, and up until now, it's been assumed that a small-displacement engine would be mounted up front, possibly fitted with a turbocharger. But according to a report by Drive.com.au, Nissan is actively considering a hybrid drivetrain to power its Silvia replacement.

The Aussie automotive news outlet spoke with Junichi Endo, Nissan's senior vice president of global marketing, who said that the automaker is trying to strike a balance between "fuel economy and driving pleasure," and that a hybrid-powered sports car has a "50-50" shot at production. However, the fate of such a vehicle hinges on the hybrid sports coupe's marketability.

While the idea certainly isn't original – Toyota is considering a gasoline-electric hybrid sports car inspired by the FT-HS concept and Honda has confirmed that the hybrid CR-Z is on its way – the move by Nissan would be a significant departure for an automaker that's kept hybrids and hybrid development at arms length, save the Altima hybrid. Additionally, Nissan maintains that if such a vehicle gains the affection of consumers, an all-electric sports car is the next logical step.

project.D.
Ahh it's about time, Nissan was quiet about this. Low curb weight, small displacement turbo motors, RWD...I like where this is going.:) The styling is great as well IMO.

So it begins, GT-R, S16 (?), new Toyota/Subaru 'AE86', Lexus LF-A, new NSX...the Japanese are going at it again.

I'm interested in the prospect but I'd be quite upset if the next silvia looked like that.

agree'd however I think they are messing some of their cars up imo, like the new NSX. I heard (and correct me if im wrong) that they are abolishing the mid-engine rear wheel drive and making it front engine rear wheel drive? which to me when I heard that, I was like wtf?

x2, that new silvia looks like shit imo, reminds me of an SLK which btw I have never liked.

AudiInProgress
Ugly.

it still is a concept right?
If so i think it might look pretty good cause when the GTR was comming out they had like 5 dif models and the finished model looks a lot better than any of the concepts.
I think its gona be the same for the new silvia, it does have a nice platform it could look like a killer car but this exact one im not to fond of.
