Installing an amplifier - Click HERE for Original Thread

I got an amp on the way. Can anyone install it for me?

Twigs_Dee
install as in just mount it in the car? Or running all the wires and such? You sure you have everything required also?

omair8
Just mount it, that's all i need. I took my old amp out and am replacing it with this new one.

platnum accord
how soon do you need it done?

omair8
The amp will ship this friday hopefully, so this sunday would be great?

Drift102
Its pretty easy. it hooking up to amps and two batterys and insalling a new altonator thats hard..

what kind of amp is it?

Wow man......... Maybe re-read your posts before you hit submit. I'm not a huge nazi for grammar, but I cant understand your post at all.

platnum accord
i have to second the re-read, and i know i fail alot of the time at re-reading my own stuff.
i think he is saying its harder to wire up 2 amps, 2 batterys and an alternator.
alts are easy, there is no problem with wiring them if you have a proper wiring diagram, and a direct bolt on with proper plugs is even easier.

wiring 2 batteries is just as easy, there is no planning really required, parallel = good, series = bad and im sure no car would love you after 20+ volts.

IMO the hardest part of installing a system is hiding your wires.

Drift102
i rarley check what im writing after.

yeah my buddys got a mazda mellenia with a full system flip out deck two subs and two jl audio ambs. hiding the wire in that car was a pain took longer than actually hookin it up.

omair8
uh so can anyone help? lol

SilverFire
All the wires are already run, there's an old amp already there and you need help to change it out?

Is there something strange about one (or both) of the amps that it's not just a 5 minute disconnect/reconnect job? (OK, 10 minutes if you want to screw thew new one down too?)

If it is, take a roll of masking tape out to the car with you. write what the terminal says on a piece of tape and stick it to each wire as you take them off. Remove the old one, screw in the new one, and reconnect the wires to the corresponding terminals on the new amp and you should be good.

If there is something strange, I'm sorry in advance for being an ass.

omair8
Yeah that's what i was thinking too but apparently i have 8 AWG wiring and i need 4 AWG wiring to my amp (this new amp is 600W RMS). So i need to change from 8 to 4 AWG supposedly.

ImporTuner
yea you will need to change your wiring to gauge 4.

platnum accord
what kind of subs do you have? what is the ohm load you will be running tha amp at?

omair8
2-12" Type Rs

Gonna run the amp at a 2ohm load.

You can keep your 8 guage and run a cap. It'll still do fine.

It's not hard to do. lol.

omair8
I heard a cap doesn't do much and is not that useful? Can anyone explain?

Dan_Gyoba
A cap is useful, as it helps with the amplifier's power supply. It will NOT help with the car's electrical system voltage, but it can reduce the peak demands through the supply wire.

600W is, IMO too much power to be pulling through 8AWG wire. Even for a class D amp, that's a lot of current. 4AWG would be pushing it, I think, and 1/0 would be the recommended wire.

platnum accord
my sundown audio saz1500d is ~1500Wrms at 12v's and it will run comfortably off of 1/0. 0 guage is overkill. 4 would be comfortable, 2 would be enough.

omair8
so i should choose 4 ga or 2 ga.? And where can i get these wires per foot?

ImporTuner
yo omair get gauge 4. 2 is not necessary for what your handling and it cost more.

omair8
Ok 4ga. wiring it is. Where in edmonton can i buy 4ga. wiring per foot?

Dan_Gyoba
Certified Radio, JBs, Autotemp, Best Buy...

omair8
Alright.. now who or where can i get the 4 ga wiring and amp installed? Certified Radio a good place?
