Should I move to a subie? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Well I am thinking of selling my 92 Honda Del Sol for a 93 subaru WRX. I was just wondering if this is a good idea and what do you guys think I should do. I am feeling that some random people on the internet will help me decide my decision. Oh and here are some pictures of my Del.

d1_dynasty
subaru all the way.

NewDynasty
Subaru.

Simple choice, you can either get the hot looking, turbocharged AWD car with a proven performance pedigree, or you can be a total pussy. :dunno:

Easy choice IMO...there's really no redeeming qualities about a Del Sol other than the fact that the roof comes apart, which really isn't that great either, since it is A. terrible for chassis flex and B. looks wretchedly fruity.

subaru for sure, but i'd buy one already in canada so you know exactly what you're getting. the jdm wrx's are retardedly fast, roughly 2600 pounds, 240hp, awd, good handling..... ya, definitely worth it to get one.

midnite
are you getting a JDM WRX? if so, wrx!

evo > wrx

i guess i dont have to make this thread does anyone know any common problems to look out for when shoping around for the wrx ?

Invalid Zero
Yeah watch for ones that are crashed or have blown engines.:p

d1_dynasty
they're rally cars, just watch out for lots of rock chips hah. seriously though, i won't be one to give any info on these cars but i know they're pretty reliable and i want an STi.

Stainless
The paint on subies is weaksauce, look for lots of chips and paint wear around the door handles.
Try to find one stock so you know that the previous owner wasn't running an aftermarket intake or BOV, as those two things will fuck a WRX engine pretty quick, as the MAF sensor and fuel system is picky.
Be sure to budget tuning (even on a stock car) such as an accessport/ecutek/open source, because without touching anything else, you can gain an easy 25hp. It may be less on a JDM car because they are more aggressively tuned from the factory.
If you treat them decently, they are some of the most reliable cars on the road.

if you are getting rid of your crx then by all means ....

EK9Hatch
Well since you already like RHD cars.... I'd go with the WRX. AWD plus Boost = Fun.

Ya I am going to Calgary on Monday to go look and some and if I like what I see I will probably be driving one around and from my research I have also heard that with out a tune BOV's can really through of the A/F ratio in between shifts.

STiPWR
Yes, running an 100% atmospheric BOV on a stock setup is harmful to the engine, and hinders performance.

There are ways to benefit from one though. Like relocating your maf, getting a FMIC, higher HP mods, and getting a proper tune.

Having your maf on a "push" over a "pull" setup will reduce the "cyclone" effect on your maf, and create a more stable airflow reading.

You will not benefit from it with a stock turbo/IC setup.

Common problems would be like any other turbo vehicle:

-Check for boost/vac/exhaust leaks

-Get a compression test done (People like to overboost)

-Suby trannies have grinds/notches like any other car, usually found in 3rd or 4th gear.

-Clutches, axles, tranny, drive shaft, diff... Its an AWD car, the drive train absorbs all the shock, not the tires like RWD/FWD... climb underneath and check for abnormal play, damage or leaks.

Like Stainless said, If you treat it good it will last you a long time. Do your research.... www.nasioc.com is your new best friend.

I have been browsing that website for a month or so now and it is awesome. I have really been doing a lot of research. Don't worry about that. I even have some the mods that I plan on doing. Im just waiting for JDMsource to get thier W's in. It should be any day no .Hopefully today:)

Ye, it is a bit of a chick car but I bought it because I wanted a silvia/180sx and everyone and their dog has one. The transtop was a big selling feature and I bought it because its a Honda and they are generally reliable and good on gas.

zachattack54
Well I recent ally test drove one at JDMSource and fell in love. I just put a deposit on it today and it should be ready for pickup on Friday. The miles are a bit high but the body is in great shape and I plan on doing some sort of engine management in the future so the intake isn't really a big deal to me.
