so i'm pretty new the whole car ordeal, modifications and what not, never really been interested since i never had a car or anything to expand my knowledge.

but my question is:
what's the difference between a b16 and a b20 engine. or anything of the like? i'm sure this is a very dumb question on my behalf but you gotta start somewhere right? my friend was telling me how he has a turbo b20, in his eg6. i just stood there nodding my head and looking blankly. so ya....elaborate, thanks

B16 and B20 are engine series codes. Specially for Honda, the engine code is usually a letter followed by two numbers that have to do with displacement. Each specific engine of a series has a revision or model number to go along with it. The D series is an older generation of engine type. The specific differences will depend on the manufacturer.

Each manufacturer has its own naming scheme for engines. Nissan uses two letters for most of its engine codes, followed by two numbers related to displacement and then the last letters related to specific features of the engine. Ie: RB26DET, RB series, 2.6L, [D]ual overhead cam, [T]win [T]urbo.

B20's are out of Honda CRV's (SUV) and the B16 is mostly out of Civic SiR's or Del Sol's here in Canada.

Main difference is the displacement (2L vs 1.6L). Also, the B16 is a higher revving engine that has VTEC.

Both motors can be great depending on what your end goals are.
