Fucking giant water bugs!!! - Click HERE for Original Thread

Invalid Zero
I'll start off by saying I hate bugs. I'm not scared of them, I just hate them and kill every one I see.

Anyway, last summer was the first year I had ever seen any of these assholes in the city. We'd get one of these fuckers buzzing around in our shop at night every couple days. Yes, these big bastards can fly. Their bite also secretes shit that dissolves flesh. YAY! The ones I saw last year were a little over 3" long.

So I just killed my first one this year and the cocksucker was already over 1" long. I hate these motherfuckers!

You know what I hate! Those damn Sow Bugs!

In my old house we had them in the basement, in the new house we have them in the basement.

How do you kill these bastards!!

In the new house we got it professionally sprayed and it kept them away/dead for that year.

someguyincanada
so those are the bugs on Whyte??? i always thought they were cockroaches....

Invalid Zero
Never heard of those. How big are they?

Oh God

Two weeks ago my girlfriend parked her new car in my parking spot (there was a puddle under her car)

We went driving the next day and turned the vents on...About 1000+ of those bugs start flying out at us... We almost shat a brick....Here we are on 170th street freaking out like people on meth or something Trying to get to the side of the road and bail out and start running around like idiots swatting them off each other.. Man we must of looked stupid..

Ohhhh fun times. ... took 3 days to get all those suckers out....never parking in my stall again lol

Rich_A
i see the odd sow bug in my house... where the fuck do they come from?

as far as water bugs go.. i've only seen a couple. one we saw on the street was about 4 inches long. scary fucker.

we dropped a subwoofer off of a 12 story building onto it.

took a few tries but damn was it an impressive overkill.

back home in alberta these savage fucking bugs that are armed like waterbugs but have much more rounded bodies always buzzed against the screen of my bedroom window.

no idea what the fuck they were.. perhaps a different species of water bug? they were hard to kill. it took a few lighter + axe executions to finally finish the fuckers.

The Sow bugs are about half an inch.

On the internet people say they come from moist places.

 I would have loved to have seen this. The video would have been epic. :D

One night in the Walmart Parking lot in Sherwood Park, I saw something big fall from sky, like it fell from one of the light poles. I get close and it's a bug the size of a hockey puck. Black, rounded and had 2 large eyes that just glared at me. Sent shivers down my spine so I stepped on it and realized that this fucker is gunna take more weight to kill it. I put all my weight into it and the thing finally crunched.

That was a weird looking bug, I thought it was a Water Bug but looking at that photo you posted, no it wasn't one of them.

THUD
Lol flesh dissolving bites lol hahahaahaha
anyway there's a carwash along my route and I stop in for a coffee all the time and I have seen them suckers all over it for the past few years and this week I saw some and there huge already.
The biggest one I have seen there was the size of a flat mouse, I picked it up with my gloves on and it was from fringer tip to wrist, it was so kool I had no idea that we had bug's that big here.
Don't kill bugs just let them do there thing unless it's a blood sucker then kill them all, I got a thing for bugs to bad it couldn't be sexual.
I will take a picture if I see any big ones in the wash bay next time I am there.

No kidding. Remember all that talk a couple summers ago about "jewel spiders" or whatever they were called? I remember at the time they were mentioned in the news I had THREE of them in my backyard.

Cyanide Ride
I hate Jewel spiders...

The last few summers, my house (and subsequently, every house in the area) was infested with these fucking things:

Can't get rid of them and I routinely hose down my house to clean all the dirty webs off.

Last place I lived in edmonton. Ran into one of those big fuckers. Didn't know wtf it was besides from a spider. So took WD40 to it and SOAKED the living shit out of it. Checked on it 30 minutes later, it was on its back on the ground legs curled in and never moved again til I punted the bitch away.

When we had time @ DOW to kill, we went on water bug hunts when we weren't too busy feeding the mutant giant jack rabbits DOW Chemical has. HUGE SOBs!!! HUGE!!! heh

Me, Trevor, and Charles all went to the 7-11 just past 167ave on 97ST... Tuesday nights around midnight, the parking lot was crawling with them, and there was one running around inside of the store... So fucking gross.

Whats with that 7-11, theres always someone fighting with somone there..lol and its a good neighborhood too. :dunno:

2ndgenlude
i live right by that 7-11 in castlebrook. tons of shit goes down there. i saw 4 kids run out of the store carrying milk and bread and shit. went in after they left and the employee said they just stole a bunch of groceries. and its not a bad neighborhood either. never seen the bugs there though. then again ive never looked for them.

ChromeDragon
Apparently there are a lot of animals out there we don't know about. Anyone read the story in the Journal yesterday about wild boards becoming so prevalent in Alberta that they are being declared pests? Tens of thousands of these things and I had no idea they even existed up here.:dunno:

SilverE90
For those Jewel spiders (I never actually knew what they were called) you can easily kill them with Raid Spider Blaster. That shit works awesome and a can should last all summer. We had a ton of them in the yard and around the house last year. To the point my wife was scared to hang out in the yard. Now she keeps the Spider Blaster close by and she is always okay.

No kidding. I've only known what a Brown Recluse Spider is for a couple of years now. Thankfully we DON'T have those up here.

I had quite a few around my house last summer.... My dogs eat them up.

I haven't seen one of those water beetles since a was a kid... It was flying around the basement and woke me up, cause it sounded like someone was clapping, from the wings smacking together. It was the size of a small dog.

I hit it with a baseball bat mid-flight, and it still crawled under the couch. I called my mom to come kill it and she smacked it with a fly swatter like 10 times and it didnt even slow down. Eventually picked it up with kleenex and threw it in the toilet.

I dont mind many gross creatures..... Rodents, snakes, maggots etc...

But BEETLES ARE FUCKING SICK. If you put me in a box/coffin with even 1 of them, like on Fear Factor, I would snap my own spine wigging out.

Yea man agreed beetles are creepy shit.

"Adults cannot breathe under water, and must surface periodically for air.[1] Occasionally when encountered by a larger predator, such as a human, they have been known to "play dead" and emit a fluid from their anus.[1] Due to this they are assumed dead by humans and others species only to later "come alive" with painful results."

Those dirty bastards..

If you seen the types of beetles that live in the desert, you would be grossed out by them too... Try 6 inch's.

Alot just fall out of the sky, down the back of your shirt. Or walk up on their back legs and challenge you, snapping their little claws.... Pretty sick shit.

arabian_ryda
wtf are water bugs? ive never seen one of these in my life. 4inchs? holy shit this is all new too me.

agreed with aaron i was lyin up against a tree once in lebanon and no word of a lie a beetle maybe 6inch was rite behind my head crawling down the tree its was fuckiiiiiing nasty.

blondy
Alberta use to be a semi-tropical land and slowly we are going back that way

We don't get harsh enough winter temperatures to kill off the insects we have and as we get warmer climes we get new bugs which is just disgusting !!

I hate creepy crawlers and every summer I see some new one like this 2 inch or more gray long thing that just clings to its surroundings...one got into my place of business last summer don't know how...and it was slimy almost and heavy when I had to pick it up with a towel and throw it out

And these beetles are everywhere !! They get in under our delivery door...the security light at the back attracts them I guess and in the morning they are everywhere...mostly dead...but beetle carcass everywhere !! Looooool Thank gawd they only seem to have one heavy mating period and then gone

Damn and I thought the one water beetle I found that was bigger than my phone was something...

I loved the WD40 story, but it should have involved a match.

I still say cockroaches are the worst. For one thing, they love hanging around people, for another they're the fucking T1000 when it comes to survival. One time I hit one in the back with a broomstick, and really pushed into it to kill it. When I lifted the stick, the roach's front half ran and hid under the left counter. The back half ran and hid under the right counter.

I wish I had a better pick of the shelob lookin spider I had living at my old apartment (in a subtropical climate). It was bigger foot to foot than my whole hand, with bright yellow legs. Her web was about 2 meters in diameter at the smallest part, and it covered my entire balcony from just outside. That thing outlasted tree branches when typhoons blew in. We got along well though, as once she was set up I had no more insects in my place.

When I find them in the shop, I deal with them with the nearest tiger torch or oxy-acetylene torch.

We have wood spiders out here in Whitecourt, huge buggers. They are about the size of a quarter and make huge webs.

I'm sure everyone has seen this video but your post reminded me of it. :D

Best shit ever for bugs is break cleaner or throttle body cleaner, instant death ftw!

I couldn't care less about beetles but spiders are scary!

Tech2
Actually the very best way for bug murder is boiling water. Bam, they're just dead, and no chemicals to clean. Pretty freakin boring though.

Mr.CTR97
i've never personally seen one but all the storys ive heard
in school and what ive seen in books.

they rip pieces of flesh off :(
and travel in packs

We saw tonnes at 7/11 two night ago.

Soulfly hates them to. Whever he'd go to pay I'd kick one at him and hed jump away. It was great.

Brake cleaner is a godsend. Putting them under the lids of aerosol cans is fun. Especially if the person opening the can is sitting down and it falls onto their lap.

EDISKRAD EHT
Fuck me.

The only upside to our brutal winters is no big nasty bugs.

Now this shit?? I'm all itchy just reading this fucking thread.

Any insects ESPECIALLY big ones, creep me right the fuck out.

fugumerkur
Hey, these little fuckers are native to alberta. They like damp dark places.

Its a fucking Albertan Scorpion known as a Psuedo Scorpion.

Found one in my Bathroom last year, so I ran it over with one of my mustangs.

SOrry my Videography skills suck, but look at the size of this fucker.
