Cadillac first sedan to break 8 minutes on the Ring - Click HERE for Original Thread

oldraven
A resounding 'Fuck you, BMW!' was heard round the world.

http://www.leftlanenews.com/cts-v-b...or-a-sedan.html

Cadillac today reported its CTS-V sedan achieved a record 7 minutes 59.32 seconds lap time at Germany's famed Nurburgring test track. The sub-8-minute lap is the fastest ever documented for a production sedan. The new model — which goes on sale late this summer — was first unveiled earlier this year, and is now undergoing final testing.

One of the objectives the Cadillac team had when it set out to develop the CTS-V was to make it the world's fastest production sedan, according to GM. Output is estimated at around 550 horsepower, although final numbers have not been released.

GM says it will release the car's certified SAE power ratings, acceleration specifications and U.S.-market pricing in the coming weeks, as testing is finalized. We're expecting official word on the car's MSRP in less than 30 days.

GM recently indicated its new Corvette ZR1 would beat the Nissan GT-R's record lap time of 7 minutes 29 seconds, however times have not been released.

Impressive for sure. But why so much hate for BMW? :dunno:

Invalid Zero
Awesome. CTS-V's give me a boner. I'd love to have even an old 400hp model.

arabian_ryda
when im a old man thats a ride im gonna wana have. pick up all those senior bitches for sure in that thing.

BMW>Cadillac

When I first read the title, I read it as "Cadillac first sedan to break in 8 minutes on the Ring" That would have been more believable.

Your Caddy may go around a track fast once, but it will break down and never work again after that. You know that BMW will destroy that time when they come out with the next gen M5 in a few years.

Prudz_lude
don't BMW's fall apart all the time. last time i heard they are pretty bad for falling apart lately. :dunno:

dwarfy123
If you look at JD power charts, there reliabilty is above the median, compared to all other cars. Caddy is way down at the bottom.

WTF are you smoking?

http://www.cartest.ca/what_are_the_most_reliable_v.htm

Looks like Cadillac is in 5th place, 175 problems per 100 vehicles.

BMW is in 11th with 225 problems per 100 vehicles.

http://www.jdpower.com/autos/rating...atings-by-brand

Looks like Cadillac beats BMW again. Every site I look at has the Caddy on top.

I bought my 06 CTS instead of a 3 series because I went on MSN autos and read all the user reviews. There are a lot of quality issues with BMW. Bulletproof drivetrain but other small shit keeps breaking. The CTS owners were far happier and reported a lot less issues than the BMW owners. If you don't believe me, take a look for yourself.

I would enjoy driving a BMW more, but the CTS is my wife's daily so I wanted something reliable. So far it has been 100% reliable, and when I'm driving it I beat on it.

Edit to add, this is the latest 2007 study.
http://www.jdpower.com/corporate/ne...aspx?ID=2007130

Looks like caddy is in 3rd place. BMW is 7th. They are both above average for dependability. Saying Caddy is unreliable shows you didn't actually look it up or do any research.

and this is why people have a preconception that bmw drivers are dicks

TyPhOOnSliPPerY
yeah I have to agree with that ... they are great cars but not gods gifts like they are made out to be in conversation

My buddy had one for a couple years....fuck that thing could rip! Only shitty thing was that it came with run flats.....and he went through them in the first summer LOL $2400 of fun.

I was just watching some old Top Gear episodes and came across the one where they review the original CTS. Even with the V6 they loved the car. I wonder if they'll take a new CTS-V out this season?:dunno:

crzyone
Not sure if you have seen their CTS-V review but it's pretty funny :D

10 seconds faster than the RS4!!!

Nice. Good little read, thanks Raven

Quite impressive as BMW has their test facility just up the road from the track haha. I can't seem to find what kind of time the new M3 sedan puts down... if they've even ran it yet. Doesn't deserve an M-badge if second to the Caddi

Slower then the caddy for sure around track and in a straight line.

The new Caddy is amazing.

Oh, yeah. I don't hate BMW, I just hate that every car on earth is compared to, and usually deemed inferior, to their cars. It's getting old.

SilverE90
Well they do seem to strike a damn good balance in the ride handling area. They handle better than some sports cars yet still ride almost as smooth as some luxury cars. First time I drove one I was really impressed which is why I now own one. (even though mine is a pretty basic one :( )

dwarfy123
Haha, K i got pwned.

Geofux
I know someone who has BMW's and it seems he's always spending money on fixing them ... I don't know how he does it.

The new CTS-V's are alright cars, I prefer the older ones though.

Alpha Gangsta
I have to admit, for pure performance and price, this new CTS-V is amazing... but again (sorry, old topic) I can't stand the fit and finish of american vehicles. Whether its a dodge or a cadillac... as the Jezza said "It just feels cheap". I'd never make this claim for a pure drivers car but this is supposed to be a performance LUXURY sedan. They're getting better though!

For me,
MB E63/CLS63 AMG > Audi RS6> BMW M5> Cadillac CTS-V
Price and reliability not counting though.

Sure, for double or triple the cost...

So, you're buying your car purely for its snob appeal? Not for its reliability, or its performance, or because it's a good deal. Just because it has softer plastics that are screwed closer together and a badge that says 'Yeah, I just got hosed, but it allowed me to spend a huge amount of money and display that fact.'

Hitler thought he was superior, but it just turned out that he was short and ugly, with a bad moustache, but he could get a crowd going.

Did I say I preferred the above mentioned due to "snob appeal" and name sake alone? No, I didn't. This being a Sport Luxury Sedan category, I believe there should be a certain necessary refinement. I would not make these comments about a Pontiac G8 GT or a Charger SRT. (I'm actually excited about the G8, mmm... Holden)

When price doesn't matter and you can afford the gas/insurance/repairs/etc, the little things count. Thats simply what I was getting at. Fine, if you were on a budget, I'd take CTS-V simply for performance. and I'll admit, its great for what it is. Maybe its stupid to you but when I'm paying a "premium" for a car, I'd rather spend the extra and get 100% rather then 95%.

To further my point, check the "Money is no object" poll, theres a reason why the new GTR or the ZR1 isn't on the poll. There may be a limited parallel but I hope I don't have to explain the significance of it to you.

Well hello there.

If you're going to bear that name, you're going to have to act the part of alter-ego to the other oldraven. Which means you're tastes would be opposite of course. eg. You hate good beers and despise shitty GM cars.

Think you can handle that? :p

No, my account is a little on the fritz and I made a new one to find out what's going on. Thought I'd have a little fun with it, but ended up tripping on my shoelaces a bit.

I was trying to be a brainless chevy die-hard who makes up shit as he goes along and thinks the Sigma platform is a 'chevy' and not a Caddy only chassis.

but i fail
