restaurant recommendations - Click HERE for Original Thread

Blackout-spec
well when the gf comes back from europe i want to take her to a nice romantic restaurant for her birthday. you know with the candle light tables etc. i prefer a smaller place so its not so busy and loud.

dont give me names like the keg and shit, it would be nice to go to a place that is not a chain.

i dont care if its greek, italian etc.
also, im not up for places that are 100$/plate, something in the price range comparable to the keg.
so no Ruths Chris!

anyone have some places to throw at me?
thanks

Lux is pretty good for steak and is priced nicely between the Keg and Ruth's Chris. $100 usually gets a nice meal for 2 if you aren't too crazy with the drinks.

I have to recommend the Blue Pear. Probably the best restaurant in Edmonton by far. And perhaps Edmonton's best kept secret. They have a set menu (kind of) where you can pick from 1 of 4 for each course of a 5 course meal. It is $85 per person but easily worth it. They also have wine pairings which are amazing. They never overbook so it is not super busy but I would recommend reservations. Super quiet. www.thebluepear.com.

I like Normand's on Jasper. If you like game meat, they're awesome.

It's nice and dim. The menu is very well priced for the amount/quality of food.

I used to work there as a chef and without a biased opinion it still is my favourite place to eat in the city. Other places to try may be Character's, Hardware Grill, Red Ox Inn, Sage Bistro, Chop Steakhouse.

:)

Valintino's(or something like that) is pretty good, very small, only prob is it's in WEM.

Alpha Gangsta
Normands is great for meat, I still enjoy Jack's Grille and the Harvest Room at Hotel Mac has incredible service and presentation.

One of the best places in town I have eaten is Chop. Steak and seafood with a very nice atmosphere. Good place to take a date.
Its on the west end on 178st. in the same parking lot as the Sandman Inn

^ they just opened i noticed.
it looks like its probably the same style as the keg...
no/yes?

hotel mac is probably way to expensive. she would actually get mad at me if we went out for dinner and had a 200$ bill. she really wants a house, and were putting in some offers so she wants me to save everything.

The La Ronde In the Crown Plaza Chateau Lacombe is always a nice place to bring a date in the evening, see the sunset and city lights. If you go for the chateaubriand chances are she wont even care about the price due to the impressive presentation, and their apple strudle for desert is to die for.

Ling Nan if you want chinese food, one of the greatest sit down places for chinese ever, fairly reasonable in price, very dim lighting, candles, and authentic decore from the 60's since I believe that is when they built it lol

The Creperie downtown is a nice alternative to it is something different, they are alright priced, I like their duck, and they have a beef dish done with mustard, and horseraddish which is good to (the afterbreath isnt usually to appealing to ladies though), their crepe entre's are entertaining as well but I like other dishes better, you can get a appetiser, crepe entre, and crepe desert deal which isnt bad, the crepe deserts are awsome though, and it is repeatedly voted Edmonton's most romantic restaurant.

For Italian I recomend Tasty Tomatoe, on about 149st and Stony plain Rd, its small and in an old KFC or sumthin, very small and quiet. It is a family restaurant, Angelo the dad is the owner, his wife cooks in the back, and the kids serve, pasta is fresh everyday, veal is awsome, all herbs and spices are grown naturally on their farm, it is reasonably priced, I recomend the bruscetta and or calamari to start, and the veal scalopini for an entre, and the terimisu is excelent and made fresh every day but if you are not into the coffee flavor for desert they have some other interesting creations as well

Another Italian I would recomend is Picallo's or sumthin a little further south, their seafood dishes are beyond execelent, but the rest is a little more meh than Tasty tomatoe's

RacerGirl
La Ronde's food is meh at best. overpriced.

I would recommend Chop or Characters. The latter has really good food, and a nice atmosphere.

I never said their food was spectacular, except the strudle. But the atmosphere is good, the view is spectacular, and if you order the chateaubriand, the way they cut it an flambe (or whatever it is called) the meat at your rable infront of you is very impressive presentation wise, and though I Have had better meat for the buck, his was still pretty good. I don't reallly go there often, maybe a couple times a year at best, and never order anything else off he menu, so I could not comment on that.

Alpha Gangsta
La Rhonde for the view, not for the food. haha

Picolino's on 142st is great for Italian. Reasonable prices and great service. The owner is always right there on the floor. Reservations definitely recommended.

La Rhonde, my grandmother loves that place.. not sure if it's for the food or view...

I was at a conference at the Hotel there.. they had a bird of a feather lunch thing in the La Rhonde.. twas a horrible attempt at fancy foods served Buffet style... everybody at my table grabbed very little food as it all sucked.

Kiddo
two thumbs for the blue pear!!

Rabb
Good Itailian place is Pazzo Pazzo .. good prices and huge portions

Its like a higher end Keg.....the place is alot fancier and the food is alot better to.

EEDZ
wow, I gotta get out and try some of these places.
you say pazzo pazzo has huge servings eh? :D

jojodeci
pazzo pazzo is so good

the_fornicator
pazzo is the bomb, but they're a place for comfort food and not fine dining. also definitely not a light dinner out either -huge servings, delicious food, but you'll always walk out of that place holding your gut with one hand and your other hand will have a doggy bag in it.

definitely a place to go if you're looking for gluttony in the best sense -drinking bottles upon bottles of wine with their food is highly suggested.

we go there so often, they lock the doors at night and let everybody in the place smoke.

Stainless
I'll second Jacks Grill, it's my favorite restaurant in the city.
