I was driving down the whyte mud the other day and some douche in a black civic with euro taillights drives along side me. He's got his one arm centered on top the steering wheel and probably still clutching his shifter with the other hand like its a cock or something, gives me a look like he's too cool and drives away..
My point is Fuck You to that guy and I hate seeing ppl who hold their steering wheels like that. What do you think your Vin Dicksel from FnF. haha |

| I usually drive with 1 hand around 7 o'clock posistion (bottom left hand side) and my right hand on the arm rest near my shifter. |
|
|
| JoshP2002 |
If Im relaxed its around the 6 oclock position just holding on.. if Im turning, I'll usually have it around the 12 oclock just because I turn with one hand and its the easiest for me.
Sometimes around the 9 oclock too. |

12 oclock with the seat cocked back. G stylezzzz.
edit: lloool check out the pic in my sig. i look out my back window cause i have the seat so far back. |

| depends... either 9:30 with my arm on the window sill(casual city driving, easy to signal and steer), sometimes 12... at 12 you can easily turn either way.. when I drive a manual, my hand is almost always on the shifter unless I'm cruising down the highway even then my hand it close to it... never know when you'll need to react to something. My instinct tends to be down shift, pin it and manouver, and only brake if it's the last choice. |

This is actually a biological trigger. Once that left hand hits twelve and the right hand starts stroking that stick they're officially the biggest gangsters in town. |

its fuckin funny when you see those 16 year old heaters doin the gangster lean...and when u pull up beside them you think noone is driving aha
its amazing how they see anything when their forehead is barely above the steering wheel  |

I almost never drive with 2 hands, even in the an automatic.. I did in my fifht ave in really really nasty weater, steering was way over driven and it was too easy to spin out. |

| I have my right hand at 5 o clock in autos and in manuals I have both my hands at 10 and 2 unless Im shifting. |
|

9 on left, 2 on right
or just a thumb at 6~7 :p
usually just left hand on the wheel though. i'm usually eating :blue: |

| left hand at 6 and right arm usually just resting on my leg, armrest etc.. sometimes I'll actually go 10 and 2 though |
|
|
| Geofux |
| 9 and 3 in my mustang because its auto .. in a manual it's at about 10 with my right hand on the gear shift. Sometimes I'll also drive with just my left hand at about 10.. but I try and stick to using two hands to keep it as a habit |
|

| 10 and 2 pretty much all the time. As for seating position, I hate laying in the seat pushed all the way back...wtf. |
|
|
| tokes |
Driving the truck I'm a lazy fuck. 7 and 5? Unless I'm turning.
When I actually got to drive my skyrine I was pretty much 9-3 because I was always terrified of HICAS kicking in on a bumpy road and trying to sideswipe the guy next to me :dunno: |

highway.. 6 o clock.. 10 or 2 when turning.
in the city usually always 12.
when driving fast, 10 and 2 on the straight and wherever need be turning.. i try to 9 and 3 it and keep my hands on the wheel. steering ratio ftl.. |

I dunno.. my wife might have you beat, I've personally seen her drive with her knees, in a 5spd manual, while eating a sub. :P (Right knee steering, left knee bouncing between steering and clutching, both hands on the sub, cept right hand off to shift... been a while since she's done it though... I will add that she was leaving town and going out the main road here to the highway so traffic wasn't too much of an issue, |
|

| Left hand on the shifter, cuz its so JDM, right hand at 6:15. |
|

9-3 almost all of the time, or only 9 when using the cell or something. i try not to vary, keeping my hands always there gives me the best reaction to anything.
if i need both hands, left knee on wheel, right foot on throttle, with a quick right/left knee switch when shifting to use the clutch.
i haven't quite mastered the heel-toe downshift yet while driving with only my knees. |

I'll take you up on that, but we have to do it in a semi, first one to eat a quiznos sub wins. |

I can take 45 degree turns, switch lanes, etc all with just my knees. :D

My right hand is at 12 or 1 and my left hand is resting on the window.
btw off topic Jamie that thing in your sig is fucked up and freaks me out. |

Leaving a hand on the shifter is really bad for your synchros (Assuming a manual)
Besides, when driving, I like my hands where they do the most good, on the steering wheel.
9 and 3 is typical for me. When I'm cruising or commuting, I'll have my thumbs hooked over the spoke across my steering wheel, but a more serious grip for actual DRIVING. |

I could see it if you're resting the full weight of yourarm/hand ont he shifter maybe, but inthe wife's neon and my old neon, the arm rest is perfect height for me, so really it's just the wieght of my thumb on the top of the shifter, plus in those cars it's not a full arm movement to shift like you see in FnF, just a flick of the wrist, I literally don't move my arm to shift elbow stays firmly planted onthe arm rest, same with forearm... |
|
|
| dc2696 |
| That weight of the hand on the shifter wrecking your synchros is a joke...If your that worried about wearing your tranny drive an auto. |

usually around 5 and 7
elbow sitting on the arm rests,... easiest to shift and control the wheel imo |

| Usually about 8 to 9. I only use two hands if I'm going fast around a corner. |
|
|
| Momentum |
I hold my left hand at about 9 o'clock, with my elbow resting on the armrest, other hand resting on the shift knob.
I sometimes use two hands, ALWAYS on turns... feels like im racing  |
|
|
| AudiInProgress |
| If I'm relaxed, usually I'll hold the wheel about 7 o'clock, with my elbow resting on my leg... If I'm "driving" I'll hold 12 o'clock. Both hands only go on the wheel above 160km/h |
|
|
| Beerking |
I always use both hands when Im driving, just feels more comfortable and I have way better control (funny how that works, guess driving school instructor was right). When shifting, once I shift both hands are on the wheel.
Gangster lean is really uncomfortable, even when I was in high school and thought it was cool I did not do it, just does not feel right. |
|

| GOT BOOST |
| I usually let my Python do the steering. That way my hands are free to do other important things such as eat/drink dial cell number, change radio/climate controls or flip people the bird. |
|
|
| stealth |
I am surprised at how many drive with both hands, just like they are in driving school.
I use one hand, anywhere from 12 to 7 O'Clock all the time.
Like Audi said, 2 hands if I am doing excess speeds on the track. |

| I was conciously thinking about this driving around the other day. My left hand is usually at 10 or so since I like to put my elbow up on the window sill and my right hand is either off the wheel or at like 4 since it's lazy. |
|
|
| JustinL |
On the Turbo S with big front tires and aggressive camber setup I almost always hold the wheel at 9-3. It takes quick corrections sometimes on our lovely Edmonton roads to fight the tramlining.
The n/a 944 doesn't have power steering; again almost always at 9-3 so I can wrestle more efficiently with the wheel. |
|
|
| deathwarden5 |
I don't understand this gangster lean. Its impossible to drive like that and not be a ass-hat. Its also uncomfortable, and you look fucking retarded when you sit in your car like that.
Left hand holds steering wheel while I rest my arm on the door. The right is usually on the shift knob, or just resting on the wheel, doesn't actually do any steering. |
