I just found out I have the long weekend off... Its Weird... First time in 3 years..
Anyways
I wanted to take the GF down for a nice road trip to the mountains for 2 nights.. I am semi-new to Alberta so I wouldn't know the first place to go or stay in Banff or Jasper.
I was hoping to keep the hotels down to about 110-150 a night and have any ideas of activities during the day?
I was thinking the holiday inn in Hinton and visit jasper during the day but hey what do I know? lol |

| staying in hinton and spending the day in jasper is a good idea.you get the nice drive into jasper in the morniong and the same thing back at night. im up in that area all the time and staying in jasper is usually expensive, and jasper park lodge is probably 300+ a night. theres the overlander lodge between jasper and hinton. not sure on price but they are very basic. not even a tv. but nice rooms. |

| There's a place on the way to Jasper I believe 10-15 minutes out of Hinton that is a decent place to stay, and there is a smaller place in Jasper that is pretty nice as well .. but of course I can't remember the names of either of the places. :dunno: |

| the Banff Inn was nice when I was there, shouldn't be too expensive, and I love the town of Banff. there seems to be more to do in Banff IMO. |

Pretty much the best post in this thread. I called both of the places you recommended and they said they have rooms available. The smaller place in Jasper also includes a free news paper in the morning and a paper clip.

I totally recommend this place:

My wife and I stay in the forest cottage at least once a year. It is really nice and includes a continental breakfast you can bring back to your room. The cabins are heated by a gas fireplace which is really nice.
You are right on the edge of town so there is always deer and elk walking by the cabins and yet you are still walking distance to the main part of town (less than 10 minutes).
Should be about $150 a night for the long weekend but well worth it. |

Never ....
I could ask and get names of the places. BTW, I stayed at the place out of Hinton like 5 years ago, and it was about 3 years ago that I stayed at the smaller place in Jasper I mentioned.. Hence why I forget the names.
The place out of Hinton I believe is just before Pocahontas.
Found one of them, might still be a bit pricey:

hands down is one of the best places to go. We started the drive at 12am leaving edmonton which was just right. You pass by banff right early in the morning when the deer are all over. Theres i think two farries that you have to cross on your way there and you pass by almost everything you could possibly want to mountain related. Check out the pictures. |

The one just outside of the park is called the overlander lodge, and should be in Hintons phone directory. Great place to stay and if you have quads etc you can ride them out from there as a base of ops. Lots of great trails around there as well. |

I stayed there ONCE, and there was a giant ball of pubic hair balled up in the corner of our bathroom. They knocked $50 off our room, but I wasn't very comfortable staying there after. |

Curly black hair in the corner by the toilet, in a hotel bathroom?
I wasn't going to pick it up, but I'm pretty sure of the odds. |
