- Within the city of Edmonton, or outside?
- Due to construction, vehicles, or neighbours?
What are you specifically looking for? :dunno: |

noise bylaw in Edmonton is 24/7...
somebody called the cops on me once while I was working in my dad's wood working shop... cops walked up at 3:00Pm on a Saturday afternoon... I had music going, but just a pair of 5.25" coaxials (subs were out of the truck as I was making a new sub box. |

There ARE tickets for 'Disturbing the peace'....
And that applies 24/7, It's just common courtesy to keep it down around 11... |

| Keep it down around 9 in my books, depending where you are driving, or just in general where you are... I live in a neighbourhood with a lot of younger kids, and my neighbours are good so I'd much prefer to just be quiet most of the time as a common courtesy. |

Not to mention section 82 of Use of the Highway and Rules of the Road says you can't make any unecessary noise as well which covers the whole province. Section 87 says you shall not drive in a manner which unduly disturbs the residents of a residential area between 10PM and 7AM. That's most likely where the misunderstanding comes from.
In summary, within the city you have the noise bylaw which is more restrictive and is 24/7 as Blocker has said and covers more than just the manner with which you drive. Outside the city, no unecessary noise, and no disturbing residents in residential areas between 10PM and 7AM.
EDIT: Communities outside the city may have their own bylaws as well which might supercede the ROR, you're expected to know them and follow them when in other communities where they exist. |

I'm not Blocker, obviously... but Alberta seems to ignore the db part, the exhaust law is officiers discression.. I think the noise bylaw is the same... Federal Regs on exhaust is I think 82db for cars in the required test scenario. |

There is no db limit in the provincial regs (that I can find) I am not sure about Federal...
At this point there is limited access to db meters within general patrol for EPS. |

It's 82dBA for cars / trucks and 85dBA for motorcycles.
I do wish that there was a consistent manner in which to enforce this, as 99% of all Harleys break this law each and every time they're on the road...whereas most cars don't even come close, regardless of an enlarged system or not. |

Well I was watching a TV doc on a bunch of hardcore spl guys and I herd one gent say the states and their officers are starting to just write tickets to anyone that can do over 140, I’m not sure how they measured them though.
I was just wondering now since you said there is no limit you know of it it now becomes the officers discretion
Thanks SilverNeonRacer, and your right your not blocker lol.
and on another note blocker? at the last grand prix you were the officer at the EPS booth with the tibby and the duster was it? |

agreed. You know you're getting old, when go outside and yell at some younger fellows to turn their crap down around 9:30 cause your daughter (at the time, 3months old) is sleeping. Ex pointed what I did, than it was, OMG, I'm bloody OLD  :dunno: |

| haha man it happends, and for the record you may be becoming old but in due time the transformation will happen hahaha. But the reason i was asking was because i know to keep it down around and in town, but one day i got out on the highway and the local bylaw pulled me over because, well i really dont know why he didnt tell me but he continued to give me some lecture about how it was loud enough, in his car, to make out every bassline from my music. and then he told me if i wanted to play my music loud i had to keep my windows up. Well first off my windows were up, and i was doing nothing illegal, so i continued to play my music at a decent enough volume and sure engouh he pulled me over again like a km down the road. when he got out of his car, he took 4 steps, grabbed his radio, nodded his head and went back to his car only to pull away... Im confused by this whole situation so i just drive away also. so thats why i was wondering if there is a db limit or just the officers call? |
