Here's the deal. My RX-7 has been sitting since January or so. I've started it up a couple times since then to get things circulating etc. The last time was around the end of March or beginning of April.
I went out today to start it up and make sure things are running fine, and it looks like somebody tried to steal it. The windows aren't broken, but the door locks have been for a little over a year. (They didn't succeed since I've been keeping the battery in the house to help save it.)
The only way I have to know that someone tried is that the key only goes about halfway in now. there seems to be something broken off in there that I can't identify. The ignition still turns, and the engine turns over. It just doesn't catch. I've got fuel (until I hit the fuel pump button, anyway), but there doesn't seem to be any spark.
Is there some sort of immobilizer built into the S4 ECU? Will I have to dig whatever is in there out for it to work again? Or should I be looking for something else? |

they could have cut wires to the fuel relay if they were trying to hotwire it..

try putting a little trans fluid in the plug holes fire it up, run it till the idle stabilizes (about 5min) do an oil change and try to start it again. you can also try burning off the plugs with a butane it'll stop them from fouling if you quick at getting them in the car. if these remedies dont help you'll have to take it to a shop and get them to look at it.
if you go to a dealership tell them you have an rx-8 and would like the defloodiing procedure manual for the (engine cranks no-start TSB) it has a step by step system for deflooding rotaries.it works 99% of the time
some s4's do have a factory alarm system. it disarms when you unlock the doors with the key and it does prevent the car from being started.the cars equiped with it say (theft deterrent system) in the windows and have a orange security light by the shifter. they also must have power door locks. |

Nope it's all good under there. Just something jammed in the key slot...

It's not flooded. It was at first, but I unflooded it without too much trouble using the fuel pump button.
I don't have power locks either (or the sticker), but I don't see that as being an issue since the car hasn't been locked in over a year...
So... It looks like the first step is to get whatever it is in there out... Anyone know any tricks? |
