Provincial Inspection - Click HERE for Original Thread

lliew
Hi.... I need to get a provincial inspection done on a 99 Civic SiR which will be from BC.

What are good places to go to get one?

The car is pretty much stock except for an intake I believe. It is lowered. I heard that lowered cars might pose to be a problem with the inspection...would it be a problem?

Approximately, how much are these inspections?

Thanks

Focus Guy
Midas is one of the Facilitys that can provide this inspection the charge is 169.99 and takes a few hrs.

whoa! $169???

ask around for a friend to hook you up with another shop. i know someone who just had one done 2 days ago for $59. lol.

i had one done last year for $70. although last yrs pricing might be different now that only select shops can do the inspections.

i would have posted the place before if i was sure there would be no consequences. i'm not sure if they are supposed to be doing them at that price. it was a friend of a friend who hooked him up. that's why i suggested lliew ask around with his friends for a deal. one place i do know that was doing them before was cochrane automotive. i kept getting faxes from them at work advertising out of province inspections for $49.99. but like i said... with the change in regulations i'm not sure who's all doing them now.

CT does them as well if ya need it done on a weekend or something

I got mine done at Fountain Tire. It was 70 bux but they tried to charge me an extra 30 bux cause my car has a kit on it. Since the laws were just changed I dont think they can do them anymore. When I took the papers to the registries office they told me it wasnt valid and that they would have to fax them away to try and get them approved. Luckily it was approved, but the registries lady was told to make sure I dont have a large exhaust or any tint. She admitted that if I did have either of the two she wouldnt be able to tell.

I don't have any friends that know anybody that do this. I guess I would just have to phone around and ask how much everybody charge.

169 is a bit much of what I had in mind, but I will keep that in mind.

TrevorK: Who is CT?

From what it seems like...these provincial inspections are pretty strict....

CT = Canadian Tire

The inspections might seem strict, but it is one of the few ways to keep piece's of shit off the road.

doesnt seem to work.. I think that insurable road drivable cars should be inspected every few years, that would reduce the ammount of "heaps" on the road :)

That is such a pain in the ass. You have to do that in Manitoba, they screw you over on the smallest things, if you have a sunroof that doesnt open you must fix it becuase it can be an escape route in an emergency. Your seatbelt loses a bit of pull you gotta replace 'em. But take your car out to the reserve with a case of Pil and you'll get a safety within 15 minutes.
