if a car had ABS... - Click HERE for Original Thread

if the car was equipped with an anti-lock braking system, and the system was disabled due to the ABS module (something..forgot exactly what it was) fucking up, and was sent to the dealership but apparently the part isn't available in north america anymore so the ABS module is taken out... is it illegal?

not my car, but was the case for one of the cars I was checking out back then, it had an ABS light on and he told me that was the case. he had the receipt from the dealership for the diagnosis as well and I'm just curious now if the car would still be road legal or not since I read this somewhere :

Required maintenance

3 If a motor vehicle has the following equipment or safety system installed by the manufacturer of that vehicle, the equipment or system must be maintained in good working order:

(a) an anti‑lock braking system;

(b) daytime running lamps;

(c) a centre high mounted brake lamp.

That's a very interesting question... I'd be interested to know the answer too. Sounds kind of fishy to me, that the dealership can't get a replacement ABS module.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of vehicle was it?

tcpx
yeah I found that odd as well.. but he had the receipt for the diagnosis so I was like wtf, from a dealership too

It was for a 97 MX-6

Sounds fishy, I don't think, to the letter of law it would be road legal.... Not that it would ever be checked by police, unless it was involved in a collision.

so I'm assuming let's say the car was 15 years old OR it had to go through an OOP in canada... it would automatically fail? just like how an airbag equipped car would HAVE to have an airbag equipped steering wheel/passenger side

I would have to say yes

Id personally leave it out.. I hate ABS brakes in ever car ive owned. Might as well keep your foot on the gas and keep going:mad:
