94 Lude SRV Vs 2000 Dakota Sport - Click HERE for Original Thread

Copper
Sup all,

I got a dilemma, gonna be goin to bud park in the near future to race a 2000 Dakatoa 4X4 Sport 4.7 V8 magnum. It's got Intake, exaust and cams done. and it's a 5 speed.

I have a prelude SR-V stock, gonna get intake done b4 race. Were gonna run 1/4 mile and see who takes it, I'm wondering, some people have said I could do it, others say I'm hooped, I'm just lookin for opinions, maybe even some suggestions for stuff that I can do to my car to gimme a little extra kick, little mod ideas welcome.

Let me know if you think I have a chance, the guy has a huge mouth, and I'd love to close it for him.

BLK_LBL
well make sure you have no more than a 1/4 tank of gas, and rip out your spare tire and jack, that'll give you a LITTLE more speed.
im not sure how fast those trucks are tho

Anonymoose
That's like comparing apples and oranges. You may as well go off-roading and see who makes it the farthest.

lovemytrx
What are your comparative hp, torque and weight? With all those mods on the Dakota sounds like you will be getting spanked but good.

Copper
he's at about 250 - 270 Hp, the torque i'm not sure, it's a high up truck....but it weighs prob at least....at least 1000 pounds more than my car.

Copper
Like i said, i wanna ge tmy intake done before hand, any suggestions for other tweeks that i could mod up for a bit more kick?

Perhhaps give my self a shot? Kinda score on for the V8less scene

Sorry dude, you're done. He could be towing another Lude behind him and still beat you. Sad to say, our Ludes aren't the fastes things in the world. :crying: . Stick with racing sport compacts. Take him up on his challenge though, driving skills may play a big part.

Suggestions.....Turbo or all the bolt on's you can find and a 60 shot of laughing gas, either way, you'll be digging deep into your pockets.

Copper
Yeah i've been getting allot of mixed opinions, some people I talk to think he'll take me off the line, but i'll catch him the end, others are saying I don't have a prayer in the world, for me it's just a fun rip, others may take it more personally.

Thanks for the replys, more are always welcome.

PS - Drivers may be a factor, not to my benefit, I'm a new 5 speeder, he's been doin it for years.

"I need NOS, My car topped out at 140 today. Give me two of the big ones, and Harry, I need 'em by tonight."

According to my calculations, the Dakota weighs in around 3850 lbs. Base horespower was rated at 235. Let's give him 20% more power with all the work he has done, that's being generous. He has enough power to trap @ 93-94 MPH with driveline loss of 25%. If he launches in 4wd (not advised) and shifts like a madman, he could theoretically pull off a mid 14 second pass.

A 93 'Lude SRV weighs in around 2950 lbs. Base horsepower of 190. Let's factor a 5 horsepower gain in from your CAI (generous). 195 hp and 2950 lbs would equate to a trap speed ~92 MPH.
Traction is what is going to win the race in this case. If you cut a good light and can shift you stand a chance of beating him with just the CAI.

I'm sure somebody is going to dispute my figures but this isn't a math midterm.

i'm sorry but with my experience piloting dakota's, dakota sports, hemi rams, etc... they can launch like a mofo but are pretty lame in 2nd... ima thinking you're gonna lose even before you get to the track

BLK_LBL
Andrew, does he have a bigger aftermarket tire? that would slow him down quite a bit.

besides stripping your interior, you could advance the engine timing a degree or two. you should take out your subs. and maybe look into some small inexpensive engine mods.

redbaron303
I've driven every model dakota and a lude of your gen., lets just hope he doesn't launch in 4wd....

You may have a chance if you can get nearly a perfect light and shift like a mofo though.... it'll be a good race to watch :D Goodluck....

Copper
Yeah, he does have some fat after market tires....

Copper
Blk Lbl:

What kind of inexpensive engine mods? Besides cold air intake

redbaron303
Give james @ pe tunning a call.... he's got a "modded" lude that you may want to have a look at, and he may have some good ideas for you. :)

midnite
lets to a little magazine/internet racing...

a: http://www.4wheeloffroad.com/roadtests/306...069/index2.html
the dakota sport quad cab 4x4 4.7L runs 16.86 @ 82.10 stock

b: apparently someones '98 Dakota R/T 5.9 has a 7.0 (0-60) 15.4 @ 89 MPH
according to another random website.

c: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/pickup...fun/index1.html
"the R/T posted a 0-60 time of 7.08 sec, passing through the quarter mile in 15.50 at 88.72 mph. "About 1500 rpm are required to get a good launch," noted chief-tester Chris Walton. "More than that, and you'll only spin the tires." The R/T pulls hard, but we encountered a flat spot in its acceleration curve around 3500 rpm (nearing 70 mph) in third gear. This appears to be commonplace, as we've experienced this phenomenon with other R/Ts."

d: http://www.sporttruck.com/roadtests/4754/index6.html
this 2000 automatic 4.7L quadcab ran a 16.11 @ 84.61

preludes run low 15s with a trap around 90ish mph. what does all this mean? nothing!

you have less drag, but his gearing is lower, yet you can rev higher staying in a lower gear longer.
he has modifications, tho your car is much lighter.. he has 4wd, your car is red!
there are way to many variables. i haven't even consitered driving skill.

you might win one race, he might win the next. either way be proud of your car for staying in his shadow with an engine less than 1/2 the size.. B)

BLK_LBL
nicely done, midnite.
copper, just borrow a Nitrous kit from someone, and spray in 3rd or 4th if you're loosing
