10 thanks and kudos - Click HERE for Original Thread

1. Thank you to the officer who pulled me over at the strange interchange like area between Southgate Volkswagen and Weber Motors last month. I'm thankful you let me go with a warning instead of a stunting ticket for taking the corner a little tight and 'downshifting like a race car driver'. I know I drove like an ass. Thanks for letting me off the hook.

2. Thanks to the EPS officer @ the 51 ave facility that helped me out with a smile and handshake on a recent attempt of fraud against me. Thanks so much for the information to help me out

3. Thanks for Blocker for putting up with our shit on this forum and for all the great advice and clarification he lends us.

4. Thanks to the regulars at Second Cup (albeit I haven't been there for 4 years on 34 ave. It was great to sit down and have a coffee with you folks. The lady that always ordered an Americano is awesome!

5. Thanks so much to the cop that pulled over and asked if my mom was okay when she spun out during that last snow storm and hit a pole. She was awake but with no cell phone and the door not opening because of it being too deep in the snow she couldn't call for help. She claimed she was there for 30 minutes before ANYONE stopped. The first was EPS and he was amazing.

6. Thanks to the cops that helped out all the merchants on 107 ave. If it were not for you I don't think we could have recovered as much stolen merchandise as we have. It makes us feel safer.

7. Thanks to the three cops that pulled me over on my way to work downtown after I picked up a co-worker who decided to put on her makeup while en-route to work. I was very politely asked by the officers in questions if I was a 'John' and if they could check the car if it was stolen because a car like mine was reported stolen in the area ten minutes earlier. Thanks for looking out for someone elses car and giving me a really good story to tell that day at work!

8. Thanks to the cop that asked me how my day was going the night after I got a U turn ticket on 24th ave and gateway (at 3:30 in the morning on a Wednesday) and made my day by getting the ticket reversed! Just a bike cop that met me on the bike path.

9. Thanks to my friends dad (who is an officer) who has helped train me to become a better driver on and off the track. I have felt my stability and my driving skills skyrocket because of your quick tips

10. Thanks for calling back when I reported a drunk driver by coming to my house after you track him down just to shake my hand for a job well done.

This post is just a thank you to our friends of the force. I think there has been a lot of hostility lately and I just wanted to give thanks and point out that there are still some great positive cops out there.

I'd been thinking about making a thread like this for a while now.

Thank you Blocker for sticking around and helping us out with all the serious and retarded questions we ask you.

Thank you officers who stopped and waited with their lights on while I finished changing a tire on the Whitemud at 11:00PM on a Sunday night.

Thank you officer who chatted with me at a light about my car. I appreciated it.

Thank you all officers for doing your jobs. I don't think you guys hear it enough. I have a tremendous amount of respect for what you do, I sure as hell couldn't put up with the garbage you deal with daily.

Thank you officer who made me peel my tint off my windows on the side of the road for "my safety"

Thank you officer for calling a tow-truck for my vehicle because my registration expired the day before.

Thank you officer who gave me an "estimated" 70 in a 50 zone because of the "sound of my engine" followed by a blatant lie in the courtroom.

Thank you officer for the enlarged exhaust ticket when my aftermarket tip is smaller than stock.

Thanks for the bus lane ticket when I had traveled less than a block, in winter rush hour traffic, with my signal light on trying to merge.

And thanks to every officer who feels the need to try and intimidate me by being a complete asshole, and always asking what I do for a living to afford my car.

Im sorry, but I've maybe ran into 2 or 3 nice police officers in my lifetime. I dont mean nice as in not giving me a ticket, giving tickets is their job. I mean attitudes and power trips.

Thanks for the postive comments, Those made my day.

Did you everthink that the reason why you have nothing but negative interactions with police was because of your attitude and lack of maturity?

You are the author of your own misfortune.

I don't buy that. I have met 2 nice cops out of 20+ that I have had dealings with in the 7 years I've lived here.

The first run in with shitty cops was the day I moved here and into my new apartment, which unfortunately was right behind the Klondiker... I didn't know any better, I was fresh from BC and the place was available.. My ex and I had just returned the truck to u-haul and on our way back we stopped at the gas bar right by where that old man was just killed, by the safeway. Anyway, we get assaulted and robbed at knife point on our way back from buying smokes at the gas bar.

I called the cops, they took 2 hours to show up, when they show (male and a female) they swoop into my place (boxes everywhere, no power as it was being hooked up the next day) and start interagating us!! Then they start searching my place without asking!!! They go into my bedroom and start rifling through my belongings, threaten to take us downtown, tell me that I have to be a hooker and a drug addict and my ex was my pimp, broke some of my collectibles, kicked my computer after she told me it was stolen... They never asked if we were ok, never took a description of our attackers, just got our info.I told them to get the fuck out. On the way out the door she calls out over her shoulder "We'll be keeping an eye on you"

Nice welcome to the city of champions...

Now I realize that the place where I had rented this apartment was in a really bad area... I didn't know this at the time and it's not like the guy renting the place was going to tell me.... And yes my place was a mess, to be expected he day you move in right? Well I never even got a chance to say "hey don't mind the place, we just got into town from BC today and haven't had a chance to unpack" before my ex had the business end of a baton poking him in the chest and the female cop was making a beeline for my bedroom, KICKING boxes of computer parts, family keepsakes and collectibles while shining her light in the boxes... It felt like we were being robbed AGAIN!

Or the time we had replaced the brake booster on my civic.. I had accidentally installed the oneway check valve backwards... sooo, I had managed to get to the lights at 127St @ Yellowhead, clutch smoking because the brakes where on all the way from 149St. I was in the inside turning lane going to go North on 127St, I knew what the problem was. The car wouldn't move if it was running, I had a red light, I shut the car off, pop the hood, yank the check valve off and just as I'm about to stick it back on this cop going West stops, hits his cherries and screams at me "You and that POS had better be gone by the time I turn around or your getting it!!" Like WTF?!?! I had a red light and I had been stopped less than 30 seconds, I didn't even have any cars being me ffs! I guess it's common practice to hold up flowing traffic and threaten citizens?

Sorry Blocker, you might be a nice guy and all, but 18 out of 20 dealings I've had with cops here have left me feeling bitter. Which is why I refuse to give any cop the time of day. I swear half of them should be nailed with breach of trust/authority.

It's not like I'm a criminal type either, I'm just on the road more than most being a delivery driver. This year alone I've called in 23 drunk drivers, 3 B&E's and 2 assaults in progress. Why is it when they are questioning me afterwards they treat me like a fucking criminal for reporting the crime in the first place? It's gotten to the point where I won't stick around afterwards. I've had cops lay their hands on me trying to get me to stick around after giving them information. Like hello, I have work to do to, you have all the info I have, KEEP YOUR FUCKING PAWS OFF ME! You don't have any right, despite what you may think/feel to touch a citizen without warrant or cause.

Nope, cops here take WAAAY to many liberties with their authority, and do they ever get mad when you tell them so.

Sure I've had a couple of really great dealings with cops here, but not enough to out weigh the BS I've seen/been party to.

Now we have a DUI cop. I feel he should be held to a higher standard and punished to the fullest extent of the law. It does not matter that he was off duty or not. If anyone should know better it should be him. I wonder how many DUI's he's pulled over.

About the swarming: Honestly, I don't find this very suprising, not that I condone it, I think it's rather cowardly, but I also think why should the cops be exempt from a good gang beat down? people in this city have been dying from them for years! Bus drivers, Doctors, Working Joes, Women with children, it doesn't matter what walk of life you come from, in the City of Champions everyone is entitled to a free gang beating... stabbing... shooting.. whatever is convenient...

This city is fucked and I don't see it getting better anytime soon. We can't even get roads to drive on let alone a decent police force to patrol them.... yet my taxes keep going up up up. Beirut has better roads! I know, I've seen it on the news!!! Sure they have more lead pollution in the air right now, but at least they have decent roads to drive on...

I don't buy it either.

I don't get pulled over very often, but over the years I've had tickets, reduced tickets, and complete let-offs (no tickets), but regardless more often than not I am greeted with ATTITUDE.

Even when I know I'm deserving of a ticket, I find the attitude more offensive and unnecessary than the ticket.

(The people that know me know I'm not a "punk" and normally don't come off as one.)

If there is one job that could use a little more promoting of "service with a smile", it would be Traffic Cop, IMO.

Again, Rolodex-lk, skyline_junkee, Tech2 & Invalid Zero thanks for the props...

Thank you again to the officer last year who pulled me over for me being a complete ass when I was excessively speeding when I first purchased my car. Asking me nicely how my day was and what my huge hurry was. And following my response of me just being a retard. He gave me a ticket for 10km/hr over instead of a double the posted limit, tow and court appearance. We continued the conversation on how he really liked my car and I showed him the car.

Was your co-worker pissed off because the cops thought she was a prostitute? Or am I misreading this?

SilverNeonRacer
I have a couple thing to say thanks for to the Police.

1. A while back, I just bought a car from a friend, well not really he gave it to me to use while I was in between cars(my truck died) and I managed to get insurance on it, but not plates so I used an expired plate off my truck to go pick it up late one Sunday night, a cruiser pulls me over, he was very polite, I was very up front with him, showed him the bill of sale, the insurance, the expired registration for the plate.. he went back to his car.. 15min later came back, told me be could write me over $600 in fines, plus towing/impound fees... but cause the car didn't look like it was worth that(86 carolla rusted to shit) he would let me go, but atually said if something happens like an accident my ass would be grass.. I said yup I know, I had a quick stop to make in the city before heading out on the highway home..

2. As I posted in the messed up driver thread I was being chased by some messed up BC guy with local friends in the car... considering I was driving at a decent rate - 60-80km/h I passed a cruiser doing paper work, dispatch got him rolling before I was 2 blocks away(I told them the cruiser number) they had the guy pulled over with in prolly 5minutes of me calling in... nailed the little pricks with over $600 or $800 in fines(can't remember anymore).

And in general when i call in they seem to get on the stuff rather quickly... a few times I've called in to the RCMp to report drivers going 200+, drunks, etc if I can't tale the driver to report location I don't expect them to catch them unless a cruiser is already on that hiway.

Most times I get a cop with a decent or good attitude... sometimes I get an ass, but I don't be an ass back, sometimes I do politly protest if I think they're in the wrong.. but meh.. not worth the hassle to get riled up.

I wanna throw up a huge thanks to the local law enforcement. I was out cruising around in a C6 vette at about 11 one night and I got pulled over because the plates wouldnt run and they thought it might be stolen. Turned out to just be a reading mistake so she sent me on my way. The lady cop was very nice, although her partner scared the shit out of me when he slammed his flashlight down on the windshield to see if I had 3 kilo's of columbian pure on the passengers seat.

I know if someone steals my car I hope they get pulled over for it, and it's not really an inconvience.

Edit: Keep up the good work guys, and thanks blocker for being on this forum. I've had thousands of questions answered just by searching. Oh, but I don't want to start a new thread for just one question so answer me this please:

The YELLOW speed limit signs, such as on an exit ramp etc, are those real speed signs or recommendations? I only ask because my AMA driving instructor told me they are suggested speed signs yet everyone else I talk to swear theyre no different from real speed signs. Could you clarify this for me before I inadvertently get a ticket.

Thanks

AudiInProgress
Orange signs are just suggestions... They are not speed LIMIT signs, which are white.

BLOCKER
AudiInProgress is correct...
