Hi Matt,

Not sure what is up with the site... but I have been trying to register on three separate occasions.

- WHere is the 'I lost my password button?' It won't let me register for the event because the email exists obviously. So I am trying to retrieve my informaiton.
- The screens are taking forever to refresh? Not sure what the server is doing?

If you have another way of registering, please add me to the list.

I can then paypal my registration fee.

Thanks

Alex

Is this event suitable for a complete novice like myself?.. i have bone stock car too... will i totally destroy my tires and brakes?..
I want to come out to one of those events in the track but i am not sure if thats for me, so are there other events that are cheaper and more suitable for me? TIA

ChromeDragon
You may want to try out an auto-x or two first. These events will definitely be harder on your car, no doubt about that.

SpeedwayRacing
While the speeds are higher and the run times much longer lapping is all about learning the limits of your car and more yourself. I have found that stock cars are far more reliable then tuned ones. Its about driving to a level that you are comfortable with. I would recommend taking part in a couple autocross events or at least one lapping event before coming to a time attack though just because its a competitive environment and there is less time to learn new skills.

I was very happy to say that we had 5 or 6 people with road racing experience instructing at the last lapping event. Hopefully its something that we will be able to provide to everyone in the future. I would like to thank all those people that helped out as well.

quick_gold
Thanks for the replied guys, i'll try to make it to an autocross this summer then.. Have fun!!

SpeedwayRacing
Matt and I were talking about a couple things tonight and we have decided that we are going to create a waiting list to get into the time attack event. The reason for this is that 1 some times people don't show up. 2 some times people show up and don't have the money they should have to run in the event.

For those that are all ready registered, if you chose not to pay online you will be required to pay before you will be assigned a run group and allowed on track. This includes parade laps. Also, unless you make arrangements before hand the latest you can be at the track and registered is 5:30 or you will lose your spot to someone on the waiting list. We plan to have cars on track as early at 5:30 so your should attempt to be at the track before 5pm if you can.

Anyone that is interested in being added to the waiting list should email me at (Mike at SpeedwayPerformance.org) If you have been added to the list simply bring money with you to the track. If we get you in I will take the money from you at that point.

RotaryJunkie13B
+1 for being paid up front!!

ae1969
Hey Mike and Matt,

Do you guys have a list of the cars that are running in the time attack.

It may provide some interest to those wanting to come watch.......

Thanks

Alex

SpeedwayRacing
At this point we don't require people to give us that kind of information. I will attempt to make up a list based on what I have seen before and what people have said they were planning to bring out.

dc2696
I agree with Alex we need a list of competeing cars

Please remember, you must see the registrar (the nice lady with the white jeep liberty) by 5:30 or you're not going to run. If you need to make special arrangements, e-mail myself or Mike.

If the events continue to fill up the way this one did we might run a couple more this year. We were a little worried at the start of the season that we would have enough people willing to take part to fill the schedule. Its looking fine now though.

:D

P.S Matt I have that catch can.... We could meet up this weekend and I can give it to you.

SpeedwayRacing
We put one of my spare Endyne catch cans on his civic for now. It seems to be working so far. The cones are there to help us run a safer event. I would love to run wide open but its unlikely you will see that this year :(

SpeedwayRacing
No, but you will not be able to score any points at the first event. Are you registered for the first one all ready ?

mattEG
It is Time Attack day!

To all competitors: Be there early if possible. When you get there, talk to the girl at the registration desk under the tent.

To All Spectators: As always, spectators are encouraged and free! We hope to see more of you out tonight!

yes please post them

i never checked what i ran.

had to have been the slowest one out there.

zhao
official times would be great, it'd be even better if we knew what cars ran what times too.

u weren't the slowest matt. u did ok but u definitely were braking too early and could have taken corners a lot faster from what i saw when i was driving right behind you. i don't think ur brakes were any worse then mine, and i know ur tires were way better haha.

ChromeDragon
Thanks again Matt and Mike and all of the volunteers, was a fantastic event. Sorry again about springing a new leak. We busted ass for a long, long time getting that thing ready only for that to happen. Oh well, was still a great time.

Maybe next time I'll walk away with some hardware.

Be sure to join us on June 24th, 2008 from 5PM-9PM for the next Track Attack event!

I will upload official results sometime today.

dc2696
Great event, lots of new people out (and no gravel action either), decent amount of spectators too.

I'm going to have to figure out how to run abs, asm and trac control then add 300whp and that Z06 is done.

-Dean

coldrsx
Great event, great amount of people watching, and great variety of cars...although you ITRs are funny, you need group support?!?!

I had a blast and after dealing with the "140 is a race tire" thing, i managed to get the s2k around ok.

BTW, i love the trophies!

Incredibly fast even.

He ran consistently near the 68's though, it was impressive.

That said, there was some rumblings from a few about rule changes, we're going to leave it as is. We're trying to keep it as simple as possible and I think we've got a good system down right now.

I would have kicked ass in a 1.7L and under turbo class.

1.7 L and under?
My little mazda is a 1.3 L ;-)

Gotta say the 2-3-2-3-2 shifting on the front and rear straights really made me work a lot.

The Z06 guy was annoyed he only had to run second. If I only had to run second I'd be ecstatic.

Everyone hits 3rd on the back, its the 3rd out of turn 1, shift to 2nd for the chicane then shift to 3rd again coming out, then downshift once more to 2nd for turn 2.

As compared to last years basicly straight no downshifting backstraight.

Yea, we're looking at changing that up a touch, the problem being that the chicane really helps equalize HP vs. Handling.

Does making slow cars have to speed back up really help? I obviously realize the point of the chicanes, but it's not like they're causing the Z06 to come to a complete stop through them. That car can turn in as hard as most of the other cars out there.

It also comes down to controlling speeds and keeping the insurance company happy. As always, I'm completely open to suggestion, grab a copy of the stratotech layout off their website and cone up a layout for me and post it up.

Haha, I'm impressed that this statement comes from captain "Professional Racer" :P

But seriously, it's nothing to be ashamed of, we can't all drive Z06's and have years of track experience.

I'm begining to wonder what would have happened if I ran my race tires, Trent wasn't to far away for being on RA-1's ;)

Looks like street tire class will be a silver at best every event Mitch comes too maybe I'll trade in for race class at atleast if the Z06 registers I will lol

zhao
for insurance, what speeds do they want to see at maximum?

my opinions is the tight chicanes cause spin outs, and people hitting cones has caused a lot of downtime. i'm not the biggest fan of them, but i do think the back straight is too quick for a safe low risk event.

when we didn't have the chicanes on the back straights last year the speeds were kind of ridiculous. i know in my gtr i was hitting 170kph-180kph by the middle of the magic school busstop (maybe even a bit before the magic school busstop) where i would let off and coast until it was time to brake. i probably could of hit 200kph easy before i had to brake, and thats not a cool speed to be entering corner 2 at haha.

ideally i'd like to see the chicanes not as tight on the back straight. the front straight i don't really care about one way or another since there is no downtime if someone hits a cone there and we haven't seen anyone spin out yet on the front straight. i also never thought the front straight (when we didn't have chicanes there) speeds were that high entering corner 1.

katrink
Personally I find it hard to believe that you were going that fast. Conroy was only going about 200km/h by the end of the main straight. His exit speed is far higher on slicks then your GTR would ever be able to manage. That said, the chicanes are there to reduce speeds but at the same time we also use them to help people with their brakes. It doesn't take long to overheat your brakes when things are wide open at stato. Its about finding a fine balance. We will be running things slightly differently and a little more open at the next event. Or at least that is the plan at this point.

(Mike)

zhao
believe what you like but thats what the speedo was reading and the speedo in that car is accurate as a stock speedo can be. i remember it vividly because i was talking with alex and the guy with the yellow elise about what speeds we were hitting on that straight and at what point we were letting off and braking. i definitely was exceeding 170kph every single time i hit that straight by about 2/3rd the way down, pretty much dead in the middle of the magic school bus, then i'd coast to the end of the magic school bus or a little past, and gradually brake down to take corner 2. btw when i was driving that gtr that day it was putting out 335whp.

SpeedwayRacing
So what, Conroy's car makes more power, is lighter and was running a racing slick tire. He is also a more experienced race driver. I am not saying its impossible I am just saying I feel its highly unlikely.

4kruzn
nothing personal buddy but your speedo was wak!!!

ive driven a 405rwhp skyline out there on r compounds with no chicane and a 440rwhp 91 rx7 and a 350rwhp 93 rx7 all
with r compounds and no chicane. none of them exceeded 170 - 180 kph on the long straight. if your gtr went 200 you would have to be pushing 700 hp plus. with the light blue rx i was still only at mid fourth gear well below 200. 2500lbs and 350rwhp. i just cant see a gtr with 3400lbs hitting those speeds.
