Hey folks.. was looking into buying some whey protein tonight but on the label I noticed 130 calories per scoop.
Realizing this would negate most if not all of the cardio I do in a workout.. I opted out. Is there any way to get my protein without all the rest? I'd be bombing at least 2 scoops of this stuff so that's way too much. Maybe I'm asking too much as a guy who is trying to not only cut but tone up as well. |

I looked at the Casein and Whey I have, both are between 110 and 130 calories
Good luck on your hunt, I don't think you'll find much. |

| From what I have read, Casein is best taken throughout the day as it is a slow release protein and whey is to be taken after workout. True? |

| Protein has 4 Cal per gram. Interestingly, carbohydrates are also 4 Cal per gram. |

Not possible man.
Like said above protein has 4 calories for every gram. So even just a 30g shake will have 120 Calories. |

Whey, before and after a work out, and between meals during the day.
Casein before bed because its slow release. |

the whey i sell is 130 calories per 35gs. and thats with no additives or amulsifyers.
the soy protien i sell is 110 calories per 30gs
either way u wont find calorie free protien.
this means u have to burn off more calories then cunsumption. work out longer/harder. |

well when I go I usually run and burn off 250-300 which is enough to negate the 130 I may pick up but that still puts a dent in my results. |

Dont get so hung up on the Cal's, protein cant be stored as fat anyways.
edit- try an isolate , about 90cal/22g protein |

Or just eat Chicken and tuna. Both are low in calories and taste better than a shake ;)

i do eat tuna after every workout. it's pretty rad. I think it says either 16 or 22g of protein per 1/2 can so I am getting a good amount.
i eat the white flake stuff.. fuckin delicious. i usually make it into a wrap with rice and cucumber. i still need to find a low fat/cal sauce to top this snack off with though. |

And by pretty rad, you must mean, boring as all shit, and I'd rather cut off my tongue then choke down another can of this crap? If so, I wish I ACTUALLY enjoyed the taste of straight canned tuna. I try to pretend I enjoy it. Or slather it in hot sauce.
Anyway, tuna IS your best bang for the protein vs. calorie debate.
If you're going to compare proteins, just check the carb and/or sugar #'s. Try to keep them as low as possible. Even then, if consumed right after a workout, you will probably burn up all the sugars it may contain. |

Tuna and white rice post workout is a great combo (unless your doing keto or anabolic diet style) . remember tuna alone though does not contain all the amino acids you need thats why you should be getting your protien from many diff sources. |

:) I love sushi. I eat it about 3-4 times a week. I eat a ton of chicken and tuna. By chicken I mean breast and usually BBQ it without any sauce.
I also eat mostly sandwiches / wraps when cooking for just myself. I'm cutting burgers out almost completely and stopped getting my bacon on.
I have horrible genes and metabolism so I need to watch what I eat more than the average person. I have already in the past cut out all fast foods, pop, battered food, pastry, sugary food/drink and have pretty much axed beer.
I lost 50 lbs with my diet change but that alone wasn't enough.
Now I'm starting to drink much more water, eat less beef and more fish, make a wrap instead of a sandwich and I am trying to make the move to skim milk.
One of my favorite things, which I think only myself and Peter Forsberg eat, is raw quick oats and milk. Soooo good. I doubt its bad for me either. |

Protein calories are the amount of energy stored in protein molecules if they are burned for energy. If your body needs protein, it won't be burning any of it off... it will burn carbohydrates and sugars first. The body only burns protein calories if it has no other energy source. It also takes a lot of energy to turn protein into fat... so your body would rather build muscles and cells than turn it into fat.
Calories are measured by chemically burning a set amount of food in a calorimeter to measure the amount of energy they contain. Protein burns, just not very cleanly... calories in pure protein won't make you fat... just make sure your protein isn't stuffed with tons of filler. |
