Hello All,
I'm in Alberta for a nice vacation. Unfortunately, I was caught for speeding while passing a big rig on a two lane highway. Of course the oncoming car was a RCMP crown vic.
Anyhow, I'd like to fight the ticket, but unfortunately I won't be here for the court date (from Toronto). I've been searching the forum and the internet for people who can represent you (lawyer or others). I know about pointts.com but am looking for others you guys have dealt with.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks. |

Well, I know that I wasn't going as fast as he had caught me. The automatic Mitsu Lancer I was driving isn't capable of going the speed he claimed that I was travelling.
Anyhow, I'm just looking for a referral to anyone who has used a lawyer in the past and has liked the service said person has provided.
Thanks. |

I always pass semis that are driving in front of me...I guess because of all the "horror" stories with the wheels falling off them, not too mention all the debris (especially rocks) they seem to make airborne... The whole idea behind passing is to speed up for the time a vehicle is being passed. I think cunix has a valid case here. |

Exactly, how can u pass a vehicle SAFELY {isnt that what cops are supposed to enforce anyways?} if hte vehicle in front is doing the speed limit and you ahve to do it too?!...hmm head on collision.
Fight it!

The answer is, you don't pass the vehicle. You leave enough space between yourself and the vehicle ahead of you or you might get a ticket for "tailgating".
It is illegal to exceed the posted speed limit in any circumstance, especially just passing a vehicle traveling at the posted speed limit. |

:werd:
and those rcmp's are equipped with that new fan-dangled 360 degree radar that is DEADLY accurate within 3-5 second of pointing onto you.. there's no way to fight something like that, passing at an unsafe speed which in a cop's eye is 15% over posted limit then you deserve the ticket, quite unsafe to pass on a two-lan un-divided like that.. shoulda left earlier if you were in such a hurry  |

No offence Blaine, but unfortunately most of the north american drivers would die within 10m of entering roads in Europe. I know, I know....this is not europe one will say. Regardless, drivers in europe get much better education, are much better drivers, and there is no such thing as not passing...people who drove in europe will know what I am talking about. I am not trying to rant here or anything, but the driver education in canada really SUCKS....even the way ppl pass on two-lane highway is ridiculous. With proper driver training the accidents rate would not only drop, but most importantly, sunday drivers would never get their license (maybe at 10th attempt) and endanger other users of the roads.
I know I did get off topic, but I guess I am just pms'ing today :P |

Fact of the matter is (passing or not) the posted speed limit is the posted speed limit
Even if you wanted to fight it you MIGHT get a reduction but i doubt it.
Your better off just to pay. |

it's always good to get different opionions on this topic. Good to know about those new radar/lasers they're using.
Thanks for the replies. |
