| STiPWR |
Ok, I've been through my share of tires in the past. I have always bought on the "you get what you pay for" mentality. Paying upwards of $350.00 a tire.
I've owned Yokohama Prada's, Michelin Pilots, Toyo Proxies, Bridgestone Potenzas and quite a few random lower end tires.
I was talking to Ryan (Mini Cooper) one day, and he suggested I try out some Azenis. I was a little hesitant to make the purchase, thinking that because they were so cheap that they would be garbage. I mean, $180 a tire? But Ryan has won his share of Autox events so I figured I'd take his advice.
Well, I threw them on my rims just prior to DTP Calgary. It was pissing rain the whole weekend, tires held to the pavement well at "fast" highway speed limits  Not the BEST tires in the rain, but I was still impressed.
Just last night I installed my new coilovers, greased all my sway bars/end links, and adjusted/dampened my suspension properly, roads were finally dry, my suspension wasnt blown, and I could finally test these babies out.
Well, I have NOT been able to get these tires to lose traction yet. I have done turns which have broke my subwoofer brackets off my box and slammed it to the side of my trunk.
I have done WOT 1st gear 90degree turns from a dig and these tires do NOT want to let go. Granted I have awd, 9inch rims, and alot of money invested in suspension, but also have 316+whp..... Breaking loose was not an issue in the past.
There are sizes that do not have reinforced sidewalls, mine do, so I can't speak for the ones that don't.
Overall I give these tires a 9/10, only reason they dont get a 10 is because of the high tread wear, but that is to be expected with a good handling tire. I would recommend these to anyone. |
|
|
| dc2696 |
Even when there hot I can get them lose in 3rd gear with a measely 160whp lol
However they are a very forgiving tire. They will let go, yet still let you either brake or turn with a change of speed or angle and grip again instantly.
To make them shine you need a track and some heat. |
|
|
| Prudz_lude |
good to know
i only need 205/55/15's so they are less than $400 for 4. Can't wait to buy a pair. sidewall will be a little big but i am sure the roll won't be to bad. |

| I agree, great street tire and competent track tire. If you run an aggressive alignment be sure to rotate them frequently. They do get pretty greasy if you overheat them. |

Sounds good Aaron.
I was going to take your advice and get these for the MR2. but they don't make the sizes that I need.
2X 215/35/18
2x 245/35/18 |
|
|
| 4thGenLude |
they make my 215/40-17 but not my 245/40-17
looks like it'll be 255/40-17 for the rears |

I miss my Azenis, but I don't miss the tire wear.
Awesome grip with no squeal.
I'de buy another set but they're way overkill for what I have/need. |

ya i really like Falken tires
good price and more than enough performance for me |

I have sway bars, tower bars, JIC coilovers, solid end-links, AWD and 245/40/18 on 18x9 rims. I'm sure your traction issues differ from mine. |

mine will be going on this weekend. I got a set on some konig brightlites and can't wait to test them out as well.
the drive cross canada back home in a week will be a good test of tread wear and grip, especially through northern ontario where the pavement is twisty and smooth.

| I just loved the ones on my CRX they were great and the only thing was the tire wear was a bit much but then agian I use them alot and I am looking for a good deal on them for my car now. |

I noticed this a few times with my Falken 452s.. aka the Azenis little brother.
I plan to run these Azenis 615s on a set of stock rims for track days, once my current Potenza S02s are done, and keep using 452s on the Volks for the street (I bought them over the Azenis because tread life was a concern for the street).
Thanks for the review Aaron. |

Issues? Who has issues? lol
RWD+2000lbs+turbo+205/50/15's = Nope no issues here.
Also I have to really emphasize what Alex suggested on rotating them freaquently when running aggressive alignments, great advise. |

Uhmmm, you arnt supposed to brake around corners. You brake before.
Also, I'm comparing streetable tires, not R compounds. |

Agreed. i've never actually run on Avon's, but my cousin wrapped his mustang with them and got 2 seasons of burnouts and 1/4miles before needing to replace them. However, they didn't handle the turns all that well, but then again 600hp mustangs generally don't turn well anyway.
I'm all for Azeni's tho. I only got 15k on mine before they were at the belts, but they cost me under $60 each, so replacing them every summer is affordable. i'd give them a 10/10... 9/10 because of the wear, the extra 1 for the reinforced side wall. I drove from Edson to Sherwood Park and my LF tire was all out of air, but I couldn't tell from driving... |

i was actually being sarcastic, if you don't like to drive your car hard at all they would be great because they last tooo long. the grip on them is beyond crap though and i would never recomend them to anyone. |

All the same, they're great for burnouts... Better than burning off the Azeni's... |

for grip:
RE01R's > azeni 615 > kuhmo mX
for treadlife:
kuhmo MX > RE01R's > azeni 615
azenis wear twice as quick as kuhmo MX's in my experience, yet have the same treadware rating pretty much. RE01R's also ware less then azeni 615s and provide even better grip.
azenis are only moderately more grippy then the kuhmo MX's i find, but the kuhmo MX"s are more consistent with their grip, so while i think the azeni is a good bang for buck tire, i think the kuhmo MX is far better bang for buck for most people since it lasts a lot longer, still provides great grip, and is also cheaper then the azeni 615. |

I've had a hell of a time finding tires that will fit my car.
I finally went with Yokohama Advan Neos in 215/40/17 and 265/35/18. Smaller than my Falkens both up front and out back, but they should grip much better. Guess we'll see. |

I have the KDW-2 tires. I don't find them that loud at all, but my car is very quiet on the inside. How often do you drive in a quiet area at under 50 km/hr? I find the noise completely negligible on the highway, and I drive 100+k every day. I can hear them for sure with the window down, but I'm not really sure that is grounds for a complaint...
I find they perform really well, especially in the water. I have 275's and I haven't hydroplaned at all. I find cornering performance is only very slightly reduced in the rain, the tires do very well on wet road.
Tread wear is not as bad as my previous favorite tire, the Eagle F-1 GSD3.
I will definitely buy them again, just because they grip as well as I need them to and I don't have to worry about the wet at all. The F-1s have a more badass tread pattern, but they do not perform like the KDW's |

Yea i'm aware of that.. i'm just looking for something that i can stretch on.. and will not break my bank account totally. Not that i don't wanna spend money on tires.. just eventually a car can nickel and dime you to death. That said.. both tires are my options and i will come to a decision fairly soon. |

says who? they are not R compounds, not even close. RE01R's are way more similar to azeni 615s then what people actually classify as R-compounds.
R compounds are designed specifically for race, and often just happen to be legal for street use, barely, and usually for only 1/32 or 2/32 of their tread, then they are totally unsafe. RE01R's are designed for street use (u can easily tell by the tread, they are sold in 9/32s and 10/32s, no real R-compound can be run with that much tread). definitely not a R-compound, not even close to being in the same category as RA1s or v700s or A048s, which are considered R-compounds. |

I got the Blizzak's with the rims.. I know I need new tires... If I hadn't gotten sick I might have been able to afford new tires a lot sooner... So I've put a couple things up for sale that I need to get rid of, and no ones bitten yet..:dunno: |

Those tires stick so well that my 1989 Integra, filled with 4 passengers, had its frame bend at a 90 degree turn near my house.
The drivers door poped open and the passenger's door was jammed. I had to take the doors off and bend the hinges a bit to get them to fit again.
Those tires don't squeal, they don't tear up and they give awesome road communication to the suspension. Reinforced sidewalls and good compounds win out :D |

R-compounds were designed as a cheater tire for street tire classes they dont happen to be street legal for no reason.
I assume you've seen a new RA-1 before, they have more tread depth than my azenis did when they were new, so I'm thinking you could run them one the street for longer than 2/32's before they would be unsafe(although that wouldnt take very long lol)
Bottom line is,
RE01R's are considered by many to be an r-compound allbeit they don''t compare very well to other R's they are still considered one.
Edit: Ask notboosted about driving on the street with 2/32s tread left on R''s (kumho) |
