Alright here is the story.
- Just bought the car from my neighbor
- Car has been sitting for 7 years in a garage and was running prior to that
- Turns over but does not start right now
- Spark at all 4 plugs
- hooked a volt meter up to the leads on the fuel pump and it only registers when the key is in the starting position, no current flow in the on position which I'd imagine there should be since it still needs fuel when it runs lol
- drained gas tank completely and put in a bunch of that shell v-power shit just since it has higher octane.
- switched out the electrical thing behind the key slot and it would still just turn over and now every time I try and start it, it burns out a fuse and all but 3 dash lights go out.
- all fuses are good and all the fusible links under the hood are good to, supposed to be two more under the steering column but I couldn't find them yet.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

| was it started reg. when it was sitting? does the starter crank? if not then it could be the starter, check all the wires on the starter clean them up. Also and i dont know for sure from the info, but if the car was never started in 7 years i can pretty much promice you that the engine is prob in carbon lock and needs to be rebuilt |

guessing here but if you have spark I might assume you have turned it over to find this.
do you smell gas in the exhaust after cranking, my guess is no.
after this length of time the injectors might be stuck shut.
try putting a little gas into a spark plug hole crank and if it tries
to fire then its not getting gas.
then its a matter of checking to see if the injectors are getting
signal, if they are and are not letting gas through then they
may be stuck. time to remove and clean and free them up.

I fixed the short today so the fuse is no longer burning out.
I'm not sure if it was started at all while it was sitting. The starter is good, it does turn over it just doesn't start up.
Should the fuel pump not still be getting a signal when the key is in the on position?
If the engine does need to be rebuilt, does someone sell a kit for doing so? |

fuel pump should be on while cranking.
if it needs a rebuild your looking at between 1500 to
2000 depending on what it needs + time.
compression test will tell you if the motor is good or not.

finally got it running, fuel pump was seized and wired up very badly. Have it running on a switch now.
Engine seems to be running quite well however when I rev it up high it will die off around 4500 rpm, the engine does not stall but it wont rev any higher than that. I replaced the fuel filter and air filter looks brand new.
Any ideas on whats happening now? |

try check the fuel pressure just because you got the old pump to work doesnt mean that the pump is getting enough power or is flowing enough fuel to keep the engine going at high rpm
another reason is for it to not rev up is a lack of compression
the centrafugal advance my also have seized shut stopping the timing from advancing ( check with timing light) |
