Rear Shock Absorber Replacement 1984 Toyota Pickup 2WD - Click HERE for Original Thread

GOT BOOST
Difficulty level low.

Total time. 45 Minutes. This included screwing around and taking pictures.

Tools Needed.

1 X can of WD40
1 X 14 mm 1/2 socket
1 x 1/2 Socket Drive
1 X 1/2 Socket extension
2 Axle stands
1 Floor Jack. (The big one like I have works great):D
2 X Rear Shock Absorbers
1 X Pry bar, or screwdriver.

Simple proceedure:

1) Jack up vehicle from diff
2) Place Axle stands under the the axles. Give lots of height room so you can work. Do not reach near the top of the axle stand height.
3) Spray down bolts with WD40. I did this the night before.
4) Loosen the bottom bolt of the shock absorber and remove.
5) Loosen top bolt of the shock absorber and remove.
6) Remove shock absorber from pins. You may need the prybar for this. Sometimes the rubber bushings will stay on the pin and be stuck. Use the pry bar to gently take it off. You will need to reuse the metal washers.
7) Install metal washer on the top pin.
8) Install top shock absorber.
9) install outside metal washer.
10) Install bolt, finger tight.
11)Install metal washer on lower pin
12) Compress shock absorber and install on lower pin.
13)Install outside metal washer
14) Install bolt finger tight.
15) Remove axle stands, lower truck to the ground.
16) Bounce suspension a few times for it to set.
17) Crawl under truck, tighten up bolts.
18) Test drive. :D

and now for the pics.

Most of the pics I post are of my fleet. :D

I act as owner, operator, and head mechanic.

I figure by posting steps and taking pics, it might help people out along the way if they do similar projects. :D

Oohhhhh I have thought about it! Trust me!

I like the idea of having a beater. I like to be able to shot put logs and fence boards into the box and not worry about the paint. :D

My next upgrade/ replacement for the truck is:

Upper and lower front balljoints
New inner and outer tie rod ends
New steering linkage, etc.

Found all this as a kit on ebay for $129.99 plus shipping. :D

Also poly urethane bushings for the rear leaf springs. I have a buddy who has extra leaf springs kicking around his place. I get them for free. :D I plan to make the springs stiffer.

I plan to take photos of that too.

What I would like to do is repaint the truck the new Tacoma Blue and the rims, gunmetal. :D But… I would need to fix the rust.

do it up man
it would be one offf thats for sure
and you could just spray that heavy duty bed liner shit and still shot put shit and hopefully not nail ur paint :D

No reason other than the fact I was bored and thought I would switch it up.
