Powder Coating - Click HERE for Original Thread

Need to get two exhaust tips powder coated black, so it is a small job. Is there anywhere that does good quality work and is reasonably priced while taking such a small order?

Thanks

I saw and spoke with impact coating @ powerama. I recommend them.

I got a set of headers for my 454 ceramic coated at perfection powdercoating (I think that is the name) Nice work and decent price. Or you could just but the eastwood hotcoat setup and do it yourself, I did and it is easy to do.

Supreme Plating is another place.

Another option is maybe an epoxy based paint like the Folia-Tec or G2 caliper paint. The G2 is supposed to withstand a whole lot of heat without discoloring. Might be worth it to compare prices.

If I do just use caliper paint to do it myself will they be able to powdercoat over it if it looks bad or starts to chip or anything like that? Like is there a way to strip off caliper paint or anything?

Powdercoating works by statically sticking to metal in powder form I believe before it's heated (melted) to it.

I don't think they'll be able to powdercoat over it if there's a different type of coating on there that's not metal or an existing powdercoat.

However, you can get it cleaned yourself. I've been looking at http://www.rmc-industries.com as they claim to be able to remove pretty much any coating from metal. For something as small as a muffler tip, I don't think it'll be much.

I'm thinking about bringing my sway bars there to get cleaned.

Also, not all caliper paint is the same. The epoxy based stuff is supposed to be as tough as powdercoating. Also, a big part is prepping the surface. The G2 stuff is brushed on. Also, you have only a few hours before the paint becomes rock hard as it is epoxy. Even the paint can will turn solid. It's a chemical reaction so it's not like it air dries.

Im also looking for a place that powder coats. but wheels instead. has anyone gotten their wheels powder coated? I dunno how much shit costs to powder coat. is there a base price? I guess I could just call though. hurrrmmm

Any place that does powdercoating can do wheels. They've just gotta be stripped down to the metal first. Just ask what they charge to get them stripped. The link I posted earlier does coating stripping. Probably some other places too.
