This is why its important that you check your car out if your looking to come to one of our lapping events. Good Brakes and Tires are CRITICAL.
Then again this is at pacific raceways in Kent, WA. I have driven this track and my civic was going well over 200km/h by the entry to this turn.. |

| Holy shit, that is so shitty! He's not covered through insurance either. Unless he decides to commit some fraud. But that's the shitty part about racing your DD like that. If it gets wrecked bad enough you're plain old fucked. |

| seen this on mazdas247.com about 3 months ago, cried a little, but he punched his brakes last second and some "automatic braking" feature came on and didnt help, and he admitted to not knowing his car enough to lap it. |

The crash happens in the back...or would it be foreground. Anyways the two cars pulled over to help the guy who crashed. |

Well, that just totally pushed me a little bit more towards the no tracking my car for this weekend since I couldn't get my maintanence done.
Well, that really sucks. I was wondering if the guy was going to keep driving or pull over. I think he was contemplating that for a bit too. |

Size the video to your whole computer screen. As the guy comes around the last turn look intot hte distance you will see the crash happen.
I'm surprised he left the crash with a few bumps. That looked terrible. |

Most tracks tell you not to stop if there is a serious on track event. They have people for this kind of thing. We don't have a ambulance around at statotech because the speeds are much lower. But they always have one in the back section at pacific when they run track events. |

What i heard really happened was that on the speed 3 its the inner pads wear a lot faster than the outer pads, and before taking the car to the track he checked the outer pads and assumed they were both fine, but the inner pads were very worn and after a few more laps and heavy breaking they wore out completely and he was going into a turn and lost his brakes. Here is an exact quote from the driver.
11/5/07 update. Video posted on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sx-zmGm3Kj4
Shot by a RX-7 tt two cars back
I totaled my Mazdaspeed3 at the track on 9/13. At the end of a long straight at a very high rate of speed, I hit the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. I pumped - nothing. I skidded off the track and hit a tire wall on the passenger side at somewhere between 100 - 110 mph. I am the luckiest guy I know - X-Rays and MRI of my neck tell me I will heal up OK in the near future. My neck is still sore as hell.
Why did the brakes fail? Because I made an assumption.
I did not check the thickness of the inner pad and I ran out of pad! I assumed there was as much on the inner pad as the 1/2 thickness I saw on the outer pad.
Then something else happened - Under heavy braking, from what I have learned from talking to auto engineer types, this ABS system sensed braking on the LF wheel and not on the padless RF wheel, thought it was on ice, then dumped brake pressure in an attempt to drop down to braking threshold friction levels on ice. Every time I pumped the brakes, the same thing happened.....Crash!
So at this point it looks like my mistake caused the problem initially, and Mazda's design of the ABS ice software routine made it catastrophic. Bad combo.
Morals:
1. Never assume because you examined the pad thickness of the outside pad that you know the thickness of both pads! Check them both.
2. Never let your front pads get close to the backing plate on this car.
One last word - this car did a hell of a good job protecting me in the crash.
There was a lot of talk about ABS dump but he originally stated the inner pads were completely worn then i think that was the problem |

I wonder how many laps he got in before this happened. I have seen people crack brake pads and them completely eject them from the caliper before. This is also why we do self tech now, because if someone signed a tech sheet for that car they could be held liable for what happened.
Anyone Remember this video ?

This guy hits the wall so hard he brakes the drivers side window with his helmet and moves a barrier out 45 degrees.
This one has to be one of the best for sure.. I am thinking this guy actually attempted to heal toe and didn't do it properly.
