Aristo tranny flush - Click HERE for Original Thread

leafybug
So my tranny fluid is really dark, I'm assuming that its just a drain and fill procedure as I cant seem to see any usable cooling lines, but I was wondering if anyone has any tips or who may have done it before.

Thanks,

Rob

Any idea when the last time the tranny fluid was changed?

ChromeDragon
Drain the fluid and replace the filter. You'll have to drop the tranny pan to do this, so it's best to get the car high up in the air. I need to do mine now too, tranny slipped on me on a hot day last weekend.

leafybug
No idea when it was last changed, but its like blackish brown soo... and theres no drain plug for the tranny?

JoshP2002
Hm, I should get all of my fluids done.

leafybug
I'm going looking around sta for a place that can do stuff like that because mr lube cant and no shops will touch my car lol I wish I had a jack stand... josh you should come

looks like it might be a good idea for someone to bring in some aristo trannys. if you need it flushed take it to lube-x on whyte ave they should be able to help you out!!

JoshP2002
Hey Rob, if you want, come next pay day I think Im just going to pick up two ramps and start doing my own oil and see what else I can do.

Sxn
I would use a synthetic fluid.
I did mine at lube x where they hook it up to a machine and drain all the dirty fluid out which is usually about 10L.

Geofux
I hate doing tranny pans. I had to do mine twice on the ground. Make sure you get the gasket cleaned off totally and the new one put on. Clean all the sludge out of the pan with varsol or something else that works. Get a new filter in. Don't overtorque the bolts for the pan (like I did  ). And you should be able to fill through the transmission dipstick hole.

If you overtorque the bolts you'll have arches in your pan and it'll leak like no tomorrow.

I'm almost positive aristos run an A340E transmission, so the filter is metal. Just clean it out really well, there's not really any need for a new one.

Also clean off the three magnets that sit at the base of the sump. Take great care when removing the sump pan, it is held on by toyota gasketmaker and can be difficult to remove. If you bend it at all you will have trouble getting it to seal.

You can take all the bolts off and then try and slice it off with a wire to break the seal. After the pan drops you will need to wiggle it free of the dip tube, it requires a bit of persuasion.

leafybug
Also it says Type T I-II fluid on the dipstick. I'm assuming it means Toyota type one or two fluid, where can I find that?

AudiInProgress
since you'll have all the fluid drained anyways, might be a good time to think about installing an auxillary tranny fluid cooler...

mopo
I second the addition of a cooler, you can get them at canadian tire. Buy the mister transmission brand, they are the same as the B&W coolers.

If I were you, I would run amsoil ATF. It has much better heat resistance and increased longevity. It's a bit more expensive, but well worth it.

ChromeDragon
It does run a tranny cooler through the stock radiator.

Congratulations on your reading comprehension Matthew... I did say running an auxilary transmission fluid cooler, did I not, which would mean in addition to...

If his fluid is that dark, it sounds to me like it's getting too hot, and rather than changing the fluid all the time - why not expand the life the fluid between changes?

iLLlegal
quick tranny question in.... if one were to change the tranny fuild would this help fix lets say the reverse in a car? or slipping of the tranny? or is that something that would need alot more work on the tranny to fix?

Well he does mention in the original post that he doesn't see any tranny lines. I believed your response was aimed towards that comment.
