Important Question for Albertarc - Click HERE for Original Thread

TheWask
It seems I have a speeding ticket on my record that I know I never recieved. My insurance agent looked up to tell me why my insurance was going up $800(Welcome to Alberta!) It seems I have 2 speeding toickets one I recieved from the RCMP in Sept of 02, which is fine. Now on my record it says in Nov 01 I got one for 55 in a 30. I never did get this ticket! what can I do? Do they need a signature to give a ticket cause I never wrote my name on anything! This is absolutly rediculous!

Hello TheWask;

When you are issued a speeding ticket you are not required to sign anything prior to receiving it. If the ticket was a "Registered Owner" ticket there wouldn't be any demerit points associated so it wouldn't affect your insurance which means it must have been served by an officer who actually stopped a vehicle. On your driver's abstract there will be a ticket number which the Court house can look up in order to view the circumstances. The Court will probably direct you to the police station / detachment where the ticket was written so an officer can pull it from the files & read the circumstances. If the notes state photo ID was shown then there's really nothing that can be done but if no photo ID was shown then you may wish to have the guilty conviction set aside & then request disclosure in order to figure out what happened.

Hope this helps.

Any "Alberta Registries" office can fulfill your request for a cost (a previous posting stated that it was under $20 if I remember correctly) or if you are an "AMA" member it can be done there as well.

Good luck!!
