Good campsites? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hey guys, Just planning a camping trip for this august. Does anyone have any recommendations for good campsites within edmonton? Perferably within a 2 hour drive.. maybe less.

Looking for a campsite with the lake very close to the camp sites. Last year I went to a place, I cant recall the name right now.. but the lake was about a half hour walk from the campsite.

Thanks in advance.

Sylvan Lake.
That is all.

Gull Lake and Pigeon Lake are both way better for campgrounds on the lake. Both have large provincial campgrounds right on the lake. Depending on your site the walk could be 2 minutes to the water.

I am a huge fan of Gull Lake (I'm booked for 3 weekends this year) because it is really clean, good facilities, and the shallow water and tons of parks are great for my kids.

Sylvan lake really sucks for camping imo. Either you have a decent campground nowhere close to the beach or you have a shitty ass campground close by. I have camped at two campgrounds there and never again. Day trips to see the girls on the strip is all I need from that place. :D

Gull Lake x2

and anything west of RockyMThouse is great also, but a bit farther to drive.

beaver lake north of edmonton has a nice campground. its run by natives though, and the theft rate is high. we had someone steal our empty cans when we were on the lake

pigeon is nice, big and decent campgrounds.wabamun is also a nice place. but pretty busy. the oil is pretty much all gone. i fish the lake at least once a month and have never seen oil on the lake.

for a smaller lake hasse has a small campground. usually not busy. has trout in it if your a fisherman.

i forget where i stayed at sylvan but it was about a 5 min drive to the beach and the campground was actually really nice

and i'll agree with gull lake.. thats where i grew up camping
still love it

I just discovered Pembina National Park two weeks ago.

Spent three days there camping and mountain biking. Nice little place for a roughly a two hour dive just northwest of the city.

Kayakers use this area of the river for training alot as well. Saw alot of them during our stay.

as it was already posted that pembina spot is very nice. i would recopmmend that, or if you dont mind going for a bit longer of a drive just outside of jasper, its called pyramid lake, deffinitley worth checking out.

Great suggestions guys. Quick questions:

Do you guys have any recomendations of specific camping grounds around gull lake?

The same goes for Pembina National Park, I just checked it out, seems like a really promising place!

mink lake - one of my favorites growing up as a child ( 1 hour 20 mins west on high 16 )

Long Lake national park - also another favorite ( 2 hours northeast of edmonton )

pigeon lake

all get really busy during the summer season

For Gull Lake there is Aspen Beach Provincial Park and Brewer's Provincial Park. They are side by side and you can walk between them. Each one has close to 300 sites. The main difference is Aspen Beach has power or full hookups on all their sites and Brewer's has no hookups.

Here is the main website:

http://www.campingaspenbeach.com/

There is a link for a map of both campgrounds there and contact info. I highly recommend them. And it is about an hour from the city limits on the south side.

Cyanide Ride
If you look at this satellite map:

http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&...=16&iwloc=A

Along the top of the map, following the river are camping sites.

The ones next to the river have no power, as you move away from the river, the areas are powered, "luxury bathrooms" and more RV'ers (drunk noisy people)

^ I forgot about that place. I have camped there about 5 times but not for at least 4-5 years now. Very nice campground and close to Edmonton as well. The river is quite nice. We used to go down the river on air matresses all the time. And if you want a beach, Wabamum is cloe by. I would definitely recommend this place as well.

If if a lake is the priority, Gull Lake is still my vote for best.

anybody know any sites without strict curfews?

Wabanum was the place I went to last year. The campsite I went to was terrible. Like I said it was about a half-hour walk to the lake, and once you arrive there there wasnt a whole lot to do.

BTW DSM112, there are alot of campsites that do not have strict curfews. Unless you go to a family campsite.

^ 2 hour drive or less? lol

And as for the curfew, most places only have one so they have an excuse to kick you out if they want. You could stay up around your campfire all night long as long as you aren't loud enough to wake anyone up or piss anyone off. It usually all depends on the guys camping around you.

If you are planning on staying up late and drinking just make sure you introduce yourself to the people camping next to you and tell them to feel free to tell you to shut up if you are too loud for them. That way they will warn your if you are too loud for them rather than just calling to the front and having you booted.

Thunder lake, NW of the city is pretty nice, its about an hour and 45 minutes from the edge of the city.

You can't overnight camp at Hasse, unless they changed that since last August (last time I was there). It has a big sign saying no overnight camping

But it does have GREAT trout fishing if you know what you're doing. Twice last summer the wife and myself caught about 20ish fish in only a couple hours

go to banff man.:fingersx:

Has anyone camped at Lac St. Anne?

I've heard the lake is really nice and was thinking about camping there this summer.

GOT BOOST
Tent City. Right in the heart of Down Town Edmonton. All the sights and sounds of a major city, with the exclusivity of the woods.

Past Nordegg is a good spot. :D

Here is a couple suggestions..

1. Long Lake Provincial Park (1.5 hrs N of Edmonton)
- very nice, clean campground

2. Pembina...as previously mentioned

3. Brazeau Reservoir (1.5 hrs SW of Edmonton past Drayton Valley)

You can't reach banff in 2 hours, not even in the mystical love ship known as your 1984 318i.

vs.

I think I win. Not only is my body newer (1987 model), but it gets me laid, gets me thumbs up on the streets, and I don't need to brag about my latest 100 dollar mod to myself like a chip.

If you want to talk car vs. car, I think I still win.

xbr50
HOW THE FUCK does my thread turn from camping to shit about who's pussy shit bmw can get them laid?

GTFO TOKES AND EUROFTW! Jesus there is alot of great recommendations here and I bet many others find them usefull.

tokes
