Campbell Automotive - Click HERE for Original Thread

So I went to Campbell Automotive because they gave me the cheapest quote, and I've had stuff done in the past, and I know they do good work. I needed to get a flywheel, and head machined.
On the phone I was quoted $45 for the head, and $60 for the flywheel. Seems reasonable. I had to drop off a rod to get a new piston pressed on after. I never asked how much that would cost. They said everything would be done within 3 or 4 days, and they would call me. I didn't want to be that annoying customer so after 2 weeks and a bit I decide to phone. No answer, it went to voice mail. I left a msg.
After 1 week of hearing nothing I call back. Left a msg again. the next week I finally get someone on the phone. I ask if it's done. He puts me on hold for like 10 minutes then comes back and says I can't tell. Whoever was supposed to do it had gone racing.
How could you not tell if a flywheel has been machined?
He says he will look into it and call me back in an hour or so. Of course I didn't hear back from him. The next week I call and they say 'Oh, it's been done for a really long time. We we wondering if you forgot about it'

Obviously by now I'm a little pissed off. I get down there at lunch, the guy pulls out everything and after 10 minutes says 'I can't find the invoice sorry'.... so? make a new one. He says the 'invoice guy is gone for the lunch, and he can't make a new one, or let me take the parts. Now Im even more pissed off with them. They said to call back next week to see if it's ready. I've been busy with work, and finally had a chance to go down today and the invoice is for $280.00 $120 for the head, $80 for the flywheel, and $60 to put a piston on a rod....

I let them know what I was quoted and they called me a liar. Like most people I don't like suprise invoices. I explain all the problems I've had with them and they laugh and say too bad, there's nothing we can do.

So, don't believe what they quote you. I wish I had a written quote from them. Terrible Service.

ouch, thats brutal

need those quotes in writing people, classic bait and switch.

thanks for giving us a heads up to avoid these tricks

80 for the flywheel is a fair price. Was the head decked? 120 sounds about right for that then. I have experience with that much, and ya it sucks it took so long but I highly doubt they quoted you any less for those two jobs., set-up is a half hour charge alone for each piece.

For machining I recommend Charchun Welding just off 97st and Yellowhead. Tom their machinist is good and very honest, I brought ina flywheel I machined myself(weight reduction) and asked if it need resurfacing, he inspected the flywheel and asked how I cut the weight,, told me I did it correctly and it looked good and didnt need resurfacing.

Try them next time.

Thanks. I wouldn't be so mad if the service was there, and I was quoted the right price at the start. I have the prices written down from when I called. I told him exactly what it was. I confirmed the priced because I was suprised they were slightly less than everyone else.

Will try somewhere else next time.

No prob man.

Ya I've had unknowledgeable people give me quotes then go to pay and it was more(or less as that just happened last week lol), and shitty service is just shitty service no excuses there. Good to know they dont care about their customers though as I was going to dyno there, not anymore.
