h22a swap - Click HERE for Original Thread

spudgta
I am swapping an f22ab2 for a h22a and i really dont have a clue on how to do this!. I have all the parts except an h22 manual computer tha motor came with an auto. I am also wondering if the f22 flywheel and clutch ass. will bolt up to the h22. I know the tranny is doable so no need to change it. I have someone wiring in the v-tech but what would be better to go with just wiring it in or a stand alone system seeing as i am boosting it in the fall anyways? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated and welcome!

yes it is a vtec and it is sitting in my garage i am currently installing new cams, pulleys, header, and then ill be doing the swap, if i can find out more info that is! I am hoping to see decent numbers on the dhino and then boost it in the fall but one thing at a time i guess eh!

tegpowered
why spend all that money on cams and a header when you just have to take them out later?

teg powered you were right i am the one you heard about i was just kinda freaked out that you knew more about the motor than i did but yes it is sitting in my house just waiting for my ecu to come from japan

Nis13
you will need an obd1 jumper or an obd1 computer and have matching dizzys

spudgta
I have ordered a p13 ecu which is the one i was told to order i am having a little problem though i am missing the wiring for the vtec itself i have the piece from the motor but nothing to attach to the ecu is this going to be a big problem or can i wire it direct? I really have no clue about this vtech thing and i thought there was like a controller for it anyways, i am thinking a stand alone is my best bet any suggestions?

Nis13
your p13 should have the the proper sprockets... What harness are you using? If you have a standalone I would use that always the better way to go as I have figured out the hardway

spudgta
I am using the f22 harness for the ecu up to the engine bay then the engine harness off of the h22 from there, is this the right way to go then just wire in the vtech?

Nis13
if your using a p13 you should use the h22 harness

spudgta
I dont have the ecu that goes from inside the car to the engine i just have all of the harness from the engine itself and i dont know where i could find the harness for the h22 that goes into the firewall! i bought the motor from a froend of mine and he doesnt have the harness or the ecu that is why i had to order the computer from japan! I do have a prelude in the garage that has a harness for an h23 i wonder if that would work?

Nis13
I have an h22a harness but its from a prelude that was RHD it will need modification, you should be able to use any h22a4 wiring harness but then you will run into the crank angle sensor problem with the dizzys.

spudgta
what would i need to do to make the harness you have work? Where is the ecu on a rhd located? if it is for the same motor it should wire right up with maybe extending some wires right? I am willing to try anything at this point cause it is gona be three to six weeks for my stand alone system to come in and be installed and i have a motor sitting in my garage i am dieing to put in lol. Another thing what is the difference between the h22 with a black valve cover and a h22 with the red cover? hondas are so confusing!

Nis13
ones a types motor and ones just an h22a could just be an aftermarket valve cover? The RHD preludes have the computers on the left side of the firewall vs the right side. you would need to extend each individual wire for it to work...

spudgta
what would you want for it? it wont be hard to extend the wires on it i am sure which side of the car is the rhd tranny?

Nis13
the tranny should be on the same side I am sure... i Did a parts search on car-parts.com to find otu what a reasonable deal was all engine harnesses are 200-300. You can have it for 100... If you decided you aren't going to use it or whatever i will refund it as long as it is not chopped up... I also have a megan racing header for sale you could have very cheap if you would like PM me
