Is this animal cruelty? - Click HERE for Original Thread

So in my families backyard we had a robins nest who just had 4 babies hatch, pretty cute, and my family ad self have been watching them with facination the last few weeks. 3 of our neighbors also have nests, and it has been fairly entertaining, until I came home today and saw a raven in the backyard. I go out to the nest, and see that the raven had gotten one of the babies and was eating it on the lawn, yech! I was slightly sad, but figured thats the way nature works. I came back a little later and saw that not only had the raven killed one baby, but now all were gone, and the nest was a mess on the lawn. I was pissed now, not only had this raven killed all the ckicks, but had also made a mess of the lawn, I needed revenge. Living right in St Albert, people tend to frown upon you, and call the police when you pull out a gun and start shooting in the middle of a residential area, but I felt I still needed to protect the other 3 nests. So I went into the house, got a piece of bread, poured drano crystals onto one side and made a bread ball. I proceeded to throw it at the raven, and made sure that it ate it before I chased it away.

With the amount of drano i put into it I am sure that it would have had to explode somewhere seeing the wonders that drano will work on a sink, and I am pretty sure the bird died in a matter of a minute if not less. So would you consider this animal cruelty, or an effective way of eliminating a pesky problem?

That isn't any more cruel that using rat/mouse poison. IMO killing animals in a humane way is fine.

At my acreage we have porcupines; I shoot them in the face.... I don't find it cruel, they die quickly and in turn my trees are safe. When I go out to my grandparents farm, I shoot gophers for personal enjoyment (there isn't much else to do in Saskatchewan).

As long as you aren't causing unnecessary suffering its fine. If you came on here and said LOLZ I JUST CUT OFF A RABITS EAR WITH AN EXACTO KNIFE; IT WAS AWSOME, I'd tell you that you were one sick fuck. Killing an animal isn't cruel.

In a way I respect what you did, caring for the young birds. They deserve a chance at life. However it's hard to say that killing the other bird is the way to do it. :dunno:

It all depends on perspective I guess. Kill the old to let the young have a chance at life? Hard to say.

No. Those fucking St Albert ravens keep getting into my fucking garbage cans and spread it all over my driveway. Those fuckers.
