Ready mix concrete: where/how much? - Click HERE for Original Thread

ehos
I need about 6 to 10 cubic yards of concrete, how much should it be and who do you recommend? Or is it cheaper to mix my own? (Where do I get the cement from?)

Thanks!

I've bought cement mix from Home Depot before. Can't remember how much it was though.

I've used Burnco in the past.

What are your pouring?

I think its around $240/meter right now. We get our concrete from Alliance ( Was Z-Rock, which we owned) they''re out of the St.Albert business park.

Def cheaper to do yourself, what are you pouring?

I'm pouring about 6-7 cubic yards for a nice 3-4 car garage :)
I might need up to double that depending on code, hoists etc.

$240 seems reasonable / yard, is that with delivery? And do they wait around while you pour? (I mean, around $2000 or so bucks, I hope they let you pour it, but is this all day, or one hour or what?)

They'll usually wait long enough for you to get it out of the truck. Are you finishing it your self? It's kind of an art. I have poured a lot of concrete, I'm no finisher but if you need any help. let me know.

My brother is a civil guy so we can get some concrete technology going on :)

I'm a little worried about how it will all go down so I might watch a few pours first and see how I should do it.

I was thinking of doing a perimiter foundation pour. Then when that's all set and hard, doing the inside. I think if I try to pour a whole 8-10 cubic yards at one time, I'll screw it all up and boom there goes 2G's.

If it were me I would pour half the thickness of the pad let it harden a day then pour the top half. Also you might want to lay some poly underneath to keep the water from being drawn out thru the ground

We are doing this at work tomorrow with a 30'x20'x12'' pad.

Hire a finisher, it will be worth it to have a proper finish for the extra couple hundred bucks.

Have you formed it yet? Your going to have some reinforcements in there right?(rebar or the like)

FYI 10 yards will only get you a 24' x 30' pad. It's a decent garage but no 4 car.

That's a thick pad. What's if for?
