Hey,
Although this hasnt happened to me in a very long time, I just want to know for future reference - what are the proper procedures for being pulled over?
If you're on a main street, and theres places to pull into to allow for the safety of an officer, should you go there? Even if it is lets say a block/half a block away? Or just stop once you see the lights, pull off as far to the right as possible, and just go about it that way?
I'm not a huge fan of working on the side of a busy road myself, so Id imagine it can be nerve racking to be an officer at times. |

| Put your signal light on, slow down and pull over somewhere safe instead of the main road. |

I've always pulled off to a safe spot, even if its a block or so away from when you get hit with the lights. As long as you slow down and signal your intentions, the cop has never given me any shit about driving an extra 30 seconds for both of our safety. |

| it's not like you're trying to evade them if you're looking for a safe area.. just signal and go:dunno: |

"Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a highway traffic cop. A normal speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side. This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop heart. Make the bastard chase you. He will follow. But he won't know what to make of your blinker signal that says you are about to turn right. This is to let him know you're pulling off for a proper place to talk. It will take him a moment to realize that he's about to make a 180 degree turn at speed, but you will be ready for it. Brace for the g's, and fast heel-toe work." --Raoul Duke
lol but seriously, I'm sure if you signal and slow down, I don't see it being a problem. |

hahaha, I put this to use today. I had my plate knocked off my truck by an idiot learning to use a forklift so I just ghetto rigged it back on my truck. With my luck, their was a Commercial Vehicle officer right behind me as soon as I turned out from the customers warehouse. It was on 170st and I drove for about 30 seconds before I found a safe spot to pull in to an open avenue.
The officer didn't care about the extra driving (didn't even mention it) and just let me know to get the plate fixed ASAP. |

I've driven for a bit to find a safe spot to pull over, once I pulled into a mall parking lot after hours and another cop car came flying in front to block me in.. after I had just stopped.. turned out it was a couple bored officers.. twas 2:30am on a Monday morning.. The did have "reasons" for pulling me over.. but i never got a ticket cause I had a good answer for everything..
Also unless the officer is trying to pull you over for being a total dickwad on the road, and you don't see anywhere within the next little bit to pull over I think you can stop and ask him if it's ok to cruise up the road a bit and look for a better place to pull over... but wait til he comes to your car...
I've pulled half way in to farmers fields so both I and the cruiser could be completely off the road |

The answer I got once involved not slamming on your brakes if you're speeding, but instead, you're supposed to slow down gradually. Signal to show your intention and pull over to where it's safe to do so.
Imagine you need to change a tire on the side of the road, where would you go? |

Inappropriate comment for this section of the forum. While I understand your sense of humour, and even someone with half a brain would understand you're joking - you know as well as I do - many members of this forum have far less than half-a-brain.
