mr2 turbo question - Click HERE for Original Thread

DB9
so my buddy has a deuce and his car pulls strong, boost properly, no problems...except the intermitant smoke from the exhaust when he is sitting still at a light...

it only happens sometimes... would that be a bad oil seal in the turbo? he doesnt leak or anything like i said it pulls and boost properly...

any suggestions?

i already posted on the mr2 club sponsor site...

btw its a 91 USDM

Rich_A
is it stock?

might just be running pig rich.

DB9
hmmm it has only recently started mind you he hasnt driven it all winter till now

Supra_devil
if its happening while boosting or just after boosting then its possible its a turbo seal (not unheard of on toyotas CT series turbos)
if it happens after sitting idling for a while and then he hits the gas, or after sitting overnight on cold start up, then it could be valve stem seals.

a leak down test will give you a better idea.

only happens at certain times on a complete stop but when u start going again it stops and wont come back for awhile... i figured it would be turbo oil seal cause when its cold it wont do it

"if its happening while boosting or just after boosting then its possible its a turbo seal (not unheard of on toyotas CT series turbos)"

is this an easy fix?
