What all should I do for a tune-up - Click HERE for Original Thread

pheoxs
So I've realized I'm gonna end up keeping my car for at least another 3 years until I'm done school so I'm looking at getting it running good and changing a bunch of stuff out but I'm not really sure what all I should do.

Suspension: I need new struts in the rear for sure, should I change the springs and strut mounts while I'm at it or if they're fine should I just leave them.
Also, If I'm doing the back should I do the front as well? The suspension is still all original with 130k km on it.

Brakes: On a really warm day and the brakes start heating up i can feel the front end start to shake when I slow down. It's got stock disk brakes in the front and drums in the back. I'm thinking of replacing the front, new rotars pads and calipers. Anything else I should look at?

Engine: This is really where I'm confused. Honestly I'm not the most mechanically but I'll have help installing everything I just need to buy all the parts by myself basically. The car has basically just had oil changes and clean the air filter, and top all the fluids up since I've owned it. So I'm planning.
New spark plugs and wires, oil change, clean the air filter, drain/replace tranny fluid, new fuel filter, clean the battery / new wiring for the battery and alternator. But I know theres other things I should do, would people be able to give me some insight?

if you're doing the tranny fluid might as well do the transaxle fluid as well. 02 cavi.. prolly just atf anyhow... but your manual will say.

Check your rear brakes.. make sure you don't need new shoes/drums...

check your belts up front(not sure if it's a serp belt or v-groove...)

Thanks, any brands in particular I should look for (or avoid?)

Fazda
i perfer nkg v powers and wires, cap and rotor doesn't matter to much, it all depends on what u want.

Thanks Fazda, anyone have any advice for what I should do for the suspension?

MPZoom
Check Sway-Bar endlink for play. Inspect the Bushings for cracking and inspect for replacement. Check ball joints, wheel bearings. Check inner and outer tie rods (dont know what vehicle you got, assuming it gots a rack and pinion). Inspect tires for abnormal wear. :dunno:

If you are replacing the struts, I'd do the strut mounts at the same time. If its at 130km its bound to need replacement sooner or later. (well, if there isn't anything wrong with it and its cheap that is..)

Don't forget to replace the PCV valve thinger-ma-bob. Get your battery and alternator tested.

and grease everything greasable.

Don't forget ignition timing and valve clearance adjustments.

Fazda

Drave
Fuel injector cleaner, serpentine belt, pcv valves.
