My friend told me that in alberta if you get a photoradar ticket for 12KM or less, if you go to court they have to toss it out?
Seems kinda odd, but I guess it does make some sense?? |

more off-topic- got hit yesterday. summary- her- little ding (old OLD car), damage cost about 200, if that.
me- ~1/4 of quaterpanel dented in, bumper has a hole in it, lots of exposed metal showing (went right through the paint)...damage cost- $2,200.
and it won't get fixed until mid-september because they're loaded up with work :crying:
pisses me off, because i was going to get my car detailed next week at personal touch autos (they do all the lambos and ferraris in calgary) and now, after booking almost 2months in advance, i have to move it until next month :crying: |

| That totally sucks, kinda reminds me of when I nailed a deer. Took forever to get the damage fixed and when it was all said and done I got hit and run in the exact same spot. |

| Same thing happend to me I was backing my truck into my garage and wasnt paying attention and the washmachine I had in the back caught the upper edge of the garage and fell on the roof denting the edge. Not 1 week after I got it fixed I was loading some plywood into the back of the truck and the guy at the store dropped the edge of the plywood in the same spot on the roof denting it again. Man was I pissed.....but the store covered it so all was good. |

Hello 99atlantic;
This is the first time I have heard this. I would think if this was correct then the powers that be would change the tolerance to avoid having tickets thrown out for no reason. I can't say for sure but maybe there was some other reason the ticket was withdrawn if that in fact was what happened??????

| What are the "grace" speeds photoradar give? What about police on the road.....A fellow from my work said his neighbor got a ticket for doing 75 km/h in a 70 km/h zone........ :wtf: |
|
|
| canadiansentra |
From what I've heard and experienced, the grace is usually+10km over the limit, but it is usually left up to the discretion of the operator. If they're having a slow day then you could get one for doing 10 over or even 5 over the limit. From what i've hear they've gotta meet their quota's somehow. Although speaking for myself I have never gotten a photo ticket for anything less than 14 over the limit.
cheers
Chris  |

| Isn't B.C. zero tolerance for speeding, no leeway? As for 75 in a 70 did he/she fight the ticket. There should be a margin for error on both parts drivers speedo and also the photoradar unit itself. |

i owe bc sooooo much money its not even funny, all the albertans dont worry about any type of ticket u get in bc, untill u move their and have to pay it off, i had a no insurance fine their for 4 years untill i paid it off last year, i was on my dirtbike i got busted,BAM no insurance. thank god its only 700 their. had to pay that off when i insured my car their, but now i have 2 reg speeding tickets, one ecsesive speedin ticket and no front plate and no proof of license, So far so good!! :D they dont bother you at allllll untill i want to renew my insurance. they'll just say"u owe 1059$" untill then ill keep on drivin
p.s. ecsesive speeding is 40 over their, not like alberta, its 50 over |

I met a person who operated one of these photo-radar vans, and she tol me that generally they set the ticket line at 15kms over, unless it is a high risk area for pedestrians. Then they will probably set it lower.
Also, isn't 10 kph over always the grace speed? Because older (and some newer) cars' speedometers could be out of whack, not calibrated properly. |
