A/C discharging from your house - Click HERE for Original Thread

Prudz_lude
i need someone to come and discharge my a/c from my garage. Car is not running anymore since i removed the engine and i want to gut the a/c but i don't feel like having a shower in freon. Does someone know a place that can drain the system from a garage of a house?

eclipse.soul
isnt it illegal to do yourself at home...? thats what i heard anywyas :dunno:

Prudz_lude
it is illegal without a proper machine that discharges the freon. That is the whole point of this thread. I need to know if a shop is able to bring one of those things to my house or if any shops even do that. If not my a/c may just magically get removed by itself.

aarrgghh
You may have to phone around, but I would think the answer has to be yes as you can't easily take a houses central ac in.

If you strike out on the auto shop front, you might try the hvac guys.

what year is it ? it might be 134a, and if its an "accident" its not illegal

I would just say vent it then leave it to air out with the door open for 10 minutes.

i dont believe it poses an immediate threat to us, however it does a great job at punching holes through o-zone...

You know... a little off topic... but I was at pick'n'pull on the west side.. getting a core alt so I could get a discount on upgrading the one in my old car.. and almost every car I looked at the A/C system was still intact... I found one with the alt I wanted, went to take off the a/c lines and it started spewing freon... so I tighted the bolts back up.. HmmMm

Anyhow.. on topic.. try the hvac guys for houses(as stated before).. they might do it..

I'm pretty sure you can suffocate on r12 but I can't remember where I heard that. It supposedly sinks to the ground and pushes away other gasses (like O2)

CFC's were originally used as an industrial cleaner. I'm pretty sure that couple L's present in your car won't break the camels back...

There is less than a juice box in a cars system. Last year a few friends and myself accidently opened the a/c and it sprayed everywhere. I was just a pain in the ass to clean off of stuff. Stains everything neon green.

ive accicentally vented off the ac of many cars.... and never was it green just crack it quickly and hold you breath and run outside... leave you garage open so it doent stay in there... if your ac doesnt work there will be very little pressure in the system anyways...

my a/c is fully charged and blows nice and cold  it will be a green mist show if i do.

any appliance guy can just come over and capture it into a special bag... not too hard. no pumps required for a de-pressurization. They can re-use it for somebody's freezer later(with a pump).

if its r12 dont do it, that shit is terrible on everything. hell just go to an A/C shop and bribe on of the guys to come get it out 4 u. And yes R12 and almost every other refrigerant can suffocate you as it is heavier than air, so if you were to let it go GTFO outa there.

grego
i thought my buddys a/c system was drained i pulled the pipe off and it all drained out, its flourescent green and doesnt take long to leak out, breathed some of it in, not a good show.
