Ford’s next-generation EcoBoost engine will power an SVT-tuned Ford Fusion sedan, today’s reports allege. Dubbed the Fusion GT, the car will sport all wheel drive and an estimated 340 horsepower from the turbocharged, direct-injected 3.7-liter V6 when it launches in late 2009 or early 2010.
The car would be the fourth to see a version of the EcoBoost engine in Ford’s line-up, as Motor Trend reports it will debut in the Lincoln MKS next year, followed by the Ford Flex and its Lincoln MKR luxury version in various states of tune. The rumored ratings go as far as 415 horsepower for the EcoBoost V6, and the engine will be used in place of V8s. A four-cylinder engine flying the EcoBoost flag will replace V6s in Ford vehicles.
The Fusion GT is meant to be an affordable Audi S4, though prices have not been announced. The Fusion would likely take the place of the previously rumored Ford Taurus ST, which would be powered by the same engine. Like the ST, an all-wheel drive system will put the generous amounts of power to the ground, this one sourced from Haldex. A six speed automatic transmission with manual shift control will connect the engine and AWD system.
Related EcoBoost news include a four-cylinder turbo engine powering the Fusion and a Focus GT as soon as 2010. The same V6 meant for the hot Fusion would be the top engine option in an upcoming small pick-up truck, dubbed the F-100.
The inline-four is also likely to find its way under the hood of the Edge crossover, while plans for a EcoBoost V6 Mustang — the first longitudinal application of the engine — is suspended.
Thoughts?
Motor Trend rendering (take it with a grain of salt, since this is supposed to happen after a redesign)

At the end of the day, it will still be a fusion.
The only Fords I would buy can be counted on one hand:
- Ford GT
- Mustang GT or greater (Cobra, Shelby etc.)
- 1991 Thunderbird Super Coupe w/ 5spd. |

| Seriously, ugliest car ever. And everyone I know that owns fusions talks nothing but trash about them. Oh, and that includes small Ford cars in general (mustang not included). I'll pass. :/ |

By the sounds of their future forecast, I'd say you'll be taking the second option before long. |

| I hope mopar isn't going anywhere. Mopar has had some nice looking cars come out lately. Like the nitro, the crossfire, the calibur... sexy... |

Is my Sarcastometer dead?
The Nitro... decent looking. The other two you listed, good grief.
Right now, Chrysler's future is in the hands of the Chinese. You thought the current Sebring was hideous.
Seriously, though. The Fusion has won awards for build quality, even though the first generation of any model is expected to be a piece. I'll wait to pass judgement (I seem to be saying that a lot lately). 340hp and AWD is never unwelcome in a car of this size and price. |

oddly enough, before Ford I actually worked for Mopar parts... good times...
the only fords I would consider are Mustang and a GT... neither of which are practical nor in my buget, even with my discount :p |

I've always thought the Nitro looks like a small tractor.

No? |

I actually like the Fusion. Doesn't look as cookie cutter as most family sedans and it actually handles a lot better than most out there. AWD is available which is a bonus on a fwd car and it isn't as big as like the Camry and Accord which are both starting to feel like driving a boat imo.
I hope Ford does this although I have so say I would be surprised to see it happen with the way gas prices are. |

| Are Fusions the ones with the Ricy tailights, or the nicer crossover one? If it is the ricy taillight one no thanks. |

I'm not much for these chrome razor blade grilles either. Did anyone notice that Gillette and Ford came out with their respective Fusion at the same time? It's a conspiracy.... to what end, I'm not sure. :p
As for using the V6tt, this whole exercise is to replace V8's and V6's across the brands. I can see it happening. |

It'll come with a green 'turbo' button on the centre console that makes the front seats vibrate. It won't go any faster, but it'll feel like something's happening. |

Then read above, where they point out that the Ecoboost V6 Mustang has been put on hold.

I'm guessing it's in favour of the Ecoboost I4 (are they going to call it the Ecoboostec?). |

Finally Ford gets its shit together.
Notice how we are repeating exactely what happened in the 70's.
Today we have all these massive heavy cars with moderate to big engines, we also have a looming gas crisis and high prices of fuel.
Now All the car companies are going back to the whole 4 banger turbo for power kinda thing they did in the 80's, at least today though the technology will be alot better.
2010, im getting a brand new mustang! I can't wait Inline 4 banger turbo and make it look like the bullitt mustangs! |

| But how does a small turbo four negate the cost of fuel when most engines with forced induction require the use of premium fuel, which costs more? |

My car has a switch that allows you to use regular or premium fuel (changes timing/boost.... that is if you still use the stock BCS). I never put regular in it, though I'll probably start soon. |
|
|
| fugumerkur |
| Premium fuel burns cleaner and more completely. Same with my turbo ford you can hit a switch and drop the boost and run regular without ping. |
