So I am looking at a truck for work to charge out instead of using a company truck.
I was thinking about a couple year old tacoma quad cab. But my big question is if I get this truck I would want to do an engine swap. I was looking at swapping in the 4 cyl turbo diesel out of a Hilux surfer for power, reliability, and fuel economy. Has anyone ever heard about one of these swaps, how hard it is, and what parts are required. Do I just need Engine, engine harness, and ecu? |

| wouldn't a 6 cylinder diesel be a better bet for power in a truck? |

I have an 07 tacoma, and the mileage is pretty decent for a v6. I'd say its not worth the hassle.
Maybe just look into a piggyback so you can set the ECU to economy mode when doing long trips. |

I think it has better power potential than the gas engine, plus it would be used for just driving around on site, not actually hauling or towing anything. and since it comes from the hilux surf, the japanese version of the tacoma I would think it would be a direct swap.
I am just thinking Top Gear arctic challenge truck |

| It would take many, many years for the swap to pay for itself in fuel savings. |

I agree with STiPWR.
However if you are still wanting to do it, I would get a front clip. That way you would have everything you need. :D |
