I read up on the sr20s and they come like 4 different kinds or something
Red top 200 hp stronger bottom end apparently
black top 200 newer<
A newer black top at 220
the s15 250hp one.
my question is If you just added the t28 turbo to the red top would you get the same hp figures ? the red top and black top are using a t25 i beleive yet theres a 50 hp difference between the s15 and the red top is it all the turbo or they completely different engines ? i like the idea of having a brand spanking new engine from an s15 in my project 240 right now but i cant seem to decide on which engine to go im leaning more towards the redtop cause its cheap and has a strong bottom end but the s15 maybe its cause its so expensive and hard to get but i WANT IT. what to do what to do. |

| The s15 engines also have varible valve timing which I've heard helps bump up the horsepower.Personally I'd go for the redtop especially if you plan on upgrading your turbo later on. |

Yes, there was 4 different SR20det's from 180sx's and Silvia's in Japan.
S13 Redtop- From 180sx, silvia 91-94 - 205hp
s13 Blacktop-From 180sx 94-98-205hp (Identical mechanically to the redtop)
s14 Blacktop-From 94-98 Silvia's-220hp (Identified by the notch on the valve cover at the rear of the engine. Has a T28 i believe.
s15 Blacktop -From 99-02 Silvia's-250hp (six speed tranny, t28 ball bearing turbo)
As far as the best one to pick, it entirely up to you. The hp difference is not that much, but the cost difference is fairly big. (From around 2500us for a redtop to around 6000us for a s15 blacktop)
The s15 BB t28 does fit onto the s13 redtop and s13 blacktop. It maxes out around 300ish whp. This turbo is a great bolt-on for relatively little money. It spools fairly quick, and 300 whp is not to shabby.
I dont think that the s13 redtop has a stronger bottom end, but it does have the best valve design of the bunch. The stock bottom end on all the sr's are good for 350-400whp.
I hope that helped a little.

you have to keep in mind that the s15 engine came with a better intake manifold, 480cc injectors, obviously much better turbo with different setup, vvt.
to my knowledge the s15 came with stronger rods and pistons.
personally i think the s13 or s14 engine's would be alot easier and cheaper to do then the s15 engine, but it's your choice and money. |

| Yeah the s15 had plenty of technical upgrades over the s13's and s14's, hence the hp differences. You can take a s13 redtop, slap on a s15 BB t28 and with plenty of supporting mods(bigger injectors, z32 MAF, some type of engine management (JWT chip or better), better fuel pump, exhaust, etc.) you could push around 300whp. I agree with knight180sx, it all depends on money and future plans. |

| not too sure but look s15 is about 6.000$ s13 2.500$ so look how much extra money you have to do maybe some upgrades to s13 to bring it up to s15 power. also fixing ang getting parts for s15 in comperesent to s13 is gonna cost you arm and the leg.so its more of the money question and that is tottaly up to u.i'd do alot more research on engine spec's cus if you are to blow around 6g's on a motor go with rb25det or even rb26dett for that read hererb26dett swap |

hold up you asked about rb's before so u already know haha well i say be unique and do a first(i don't think its been done in edmonton yet?) drop in a old good v6 3.0 twin turbo 300zx engine that won't cost you as much as s15 and will give you resaults you wanted. but i heard its a bitch to do the acctual swap.

| Hahahahhaa, good luck doing a VG in a S13 chasis. I've heard it being done once in Germany, a buddy of mine knew some guy that did it there. He owned a tuning shop and said it is a BITCH. I think that the average joe blow that wants to do engine swaps like VG's and RB's is dreaming, unless they have huge amounts of expendable money to blow on a motor swap. I think there are a lot of dreamers out there. I also think that if anyone is going to do massive work to their car, they shouldn't have to ever ask anyone, "what do you think?" or "what should I do?" I think that they should be confident enough in the research they SHOULD be doing before they go and talk the talk before the "walk". I"m not saying anyone here is doing this fine example, but just for future reference. ;) |
