Okay here's the story. A friend of mine bought a house from an old lady that died. There's an 81 Chevette in the garage that hasn't moved in probably 7-8 years (it ran fine when it was parked) that has now been given to me. Problem is, there are no keys for it.
I need to get it on a trailer, but it's an automatic. So I'll have to bust the ignition lock to get it in neutral. Can I just twist the ignition with a pipe wrench and expect it to give?
EDIT: It will be a rallycross car so it doesn't matter how I get this done. It doesn't need to be pretty. |

| Yeah but I'm sure he wanted to see proof that it was your car right? Won't work for me as the reg still says this car belongs to a dead woman. |

bust the steering column pin and hot wire it.
red to pink, starter wire will be either yellow or purple.
if you want your fan motor and radio to work, hook up the orange and brown wires to red as well.
so i hear......... |

the ignition tumbler should have a lock pin break that and push the straight gear till it starts...
my old boss got his car stolen thats how they did it, the steering column was smashed and the lock pin was broken so we had to use a screw driver (flat head) and push back the straigh gear till it starts, since we had to wait for a new column. and since its an older car that should do the trick... |

If the keys are the only problem, you can ask a locksmith to make a new one for you. And maybe you can have it customized. haha...

| First things first, just don't smash anything into, stick any key in there and see if the lock cylinder is worn out. If thats the case, you've saved yourself a lot of headaches. |

WHY?
I know that with J-bodies it is possible to use key's from one and use on another. At University we used the key from my friend's cavy('99) and wanted to see if we could use it to un-lock buddies door on his riced out Sunfire, it worked. Then we thought, well if that worked let's try the ignition, sure thing, no problem fired right up. So we stole it, (actually just moved it down the parking lot, opened every door and through books on the ground and waited for him to come out....ahh great surprise).
So, like mentioned above try another key, the car is old as shit. |

Just curious, but how do you transfer the car over to your name and register it? |

I won't even bother. The car won't be used on the streets and will be trailered to where we need it. |
