No they aren't. Nothing about a 1st gen DSM is expensive anymore, except trying to find a nice one is a bitch.

How so? Used parts are easy to come by, major items such as head/block ect can be had for a couple hundred dollars. The aftermarket is huge, most cars can only dream of the support these cars receive.

They are also quite reliable, my car (2G) has only had two issues come up over more than a year of ownership. The first issue was a BISS seal leaking and the second was a FUBAR'd crank but w/e thats just what happens with higher milage cars. Its not until you start to cheap out on shit parts that they break down. Don't buy an older turbo car if you can't do your own work and afford to spend 2-3k on parts when something wears out.

The problem with DSM's and any older "performance" car in general that every hick/loser/HS kid with a license wants to race you. Sure I don't mind playing with a nice 300zx, a z06 for kicks or raping the odd retard in a POS skyline every now and again, but when I can't drive around town without getting raced at every set of lights the car looses its appeal. I'm getting out of this car and getting more of a "sleeper" vehicle some time over the next year because I'm tired of this shit.

My suggestions:
DSM
mr2
mk3 supra
.... pretty much any sporty car from the early-mid 90's would fit the bill.
Stay away from rx7's unless you have some mechanical knowledge, most cars are easy to troubleshoot/work on, they are not. I wouldn't recommend a JDM unless it has a counterpart over hear, yes some parts are interchangeable with vehicles that we get over here, but the last thing you want is a car that isn't drivable because you can't purchase a $30 ignition module in NA.
