Need Advice, WTB car - Click HERE for Original Thread

Ok, so im looking to buy an mk3 supra and someone sent me a pm about a 90mk3 targa top, leather interior ( seats are not in great shape, rest looks good) little surface rust on the drivers door, a rust hole in the rear quarter panel (cant see it, hidden behind the bumper)
it has a broken control arm( rear drivers side) and needs a fuel pump. ( he has the walbro for it but its not installed)

overall the car looks good, and it would be an easy fix if its only the fuel pump and control arm, but with out being able to test drive it, or listen too the sound of the motor, as well he didn't seem to have many records of what was done to the car.

its a 7mgte, auto, black ext, pretty much stock. 2000$. is it worth taking a chance buying it ? or should i ask the seller to get the fuel pump hooked up and fix the control arm in order to test drive it ? how would i go about not getting fucked over? should i just stay away form this situation and wait on the market inorder to find something reliable ? or is this a good price for something that needs to be worked on before driving it?

I never got a chance to fully inspect the car, didnt have the right tools with me, it was more or less just too see if i was even intersted in the car(and i am btw), but when i go back i will take some pictures of the car, and it might make it easyer for you to judge if this is a good find or a stayaway.

I don't really know the car market out here in alberta, as well i don't have a great deal of experience working on cars, this is more less my learning car. so any advice is most appreciated.

P.s
I dont have a lot of experience with cars, so i might have missed some major problems.. dunno. but if there is someone kind enough with car experience who is bored on a saturday or sunday and would be willing to take a look at this car just send me a pm because that would be really helpful. Its not far from boston pizza on 23ave and 111th

Thanks for your time.
Andre.

Most of the time if the car is not running there will be more problems than you think./........

I would have to agree with that as well

The car was actually running fine when it was parked at the end of last summer and now it is not getting fuel so the owner bought a fuel pump for it, but he is not very good with cars so hes selling it the way it is. He hit a curb and parked it.

think about this for a minute.

here are some red flags

- car doesn't run (huge red flag)
-owner doesn't know much about cars apparently, thats fine by itself
- he 'knows' its a minor problem to get it running, yet didn't he not know much about cars? (wtf, how does he 'know' that then, red flag)
- the car would be worth a lot more if it was running, yet he's selling it cheap as is, and he even has the parts necessary to get it running!!!!!! (huge red flag, 5 bucks says it has more issues then just a fuel pump needing to be replaced.)

now right there u got enough red flags for me to stay away, but then u actually have some more.

- he hit a curb with it, yet its only a control arm thats bent? another 'simple' fix that he's not doing. interesting.

my advice, tell him if its such a simple fix to get it running then get it running and fix that control arm and then have him add the cost of the repairs on to the price of the car.... and then take it to a 3rd party mechanic for an inspection before you buy it to make sure its not screwed from that curb hit.

either that or just buy it as is, assume there is more wrong with it then there is, and just take that risk; its only $2000 dollars.
