Why does it anger you so much. If I could get a SR20 powered Silvia over illegally and know its not gonna get chopped in four I would do it. |

Here's what is permitted w/ an antique plate under the Traffic Safety Act - Operator Licensing & Vehicle Control Regulation ...
Antique motor vehicle:
57-1 The owner of a motor vehicle who intends to drive it as an antique motor vehicle shall apply for registration of the vehicle as an antique motor vehicle and give the Registrar, in addition to the information required under section 53, information that satisfies the Registrar that:
a - the motor vehicle is an antique motor vehicle, and
b - the motor vehicle is not used for general transportation.
57-2 Subject to section 65, the Registrar shall not transfer an antique motor vehicle certificate of registration to another vehicle.
57-3 A person shall not use a motor vehicle registered as an antique motor vehicle as general transportation.
57-4 An antique motor vehicle may only be:
a - used as a collector's item for transportation to and from and for use in exhibitions, club activities, parades or similar events, or
b - driven to and from a garage or service station for repairs or servicing.

| So, then how is this car able to drive in Edmonton??? Could someone clear this up |
|
|
| captain nismo |
The car is able to registered and driven here legally because it is 15 years old (or so the owner tells customs and his insurance agent ;) ) Any motor vehicle from Japan that is 15 years and older(determined by the date built) can be imported into Canada and registered and driven legally. The owner of the skyline must of pulled some strings to get it through customs though because the R32 Skyline started in 1989, only 14 years ago. Next summer you can start to legally import 1989 R32's legally :D
I hope that helped a little. |

| but aren't cars built one year before?????........... like a 2000 car is already being sold a few months before the year 2000........ hasn't it always been like that.... so that would mean that the car was built in 88, but the model is 89........ B) |

Most of the time, yes. The thing is, there are many different trims of the Skyline (GT-R, GT-S, GTX, etc.) They all where released at different times. The most popular(IMO the GT-R) was released in August of '89. Add 15 years and you get August of 2004; then it can be yours LEGALLY ;) |

| I have heard that there is a special military law that allows you to bring a car from overeas. From what i have heard ,you have to be stationed overseas for at least a year and own the car for 6 months. But i don't know if that is true. |

There isn't much to assume.... bending the law so it works for you isn't the best way to do things..... He imported two other vehicles like this... One day he'll get caught and the car he's importing then will be seized and chopped.
That car only has an rb20det in it, it's nothing to be "scared" of persay... There are plenty of cars here that could hand him his ass... :) |

| Its not registered as an antique car. Cars that dont meet our safety standards can only be imported when they are 15+ years old |

They still have to pass a regular insurance safety inspection just like any vehicle here that is over 10 years old, don't think that you can buy something completely done up race style and get it licensed for the street.
