Friendly salvage inspection places? - Click HERE for Original Thread

rexxrally
I bought an MR2, which had some cosmetic front end damage and interior ripped out, for a rally car. I'm fixing the front end (just pulling off the old and bolting on the new parts, no frame damage). I just found out my "friendly" inspector isn't doing it anymore, due to the new rules the AB Govt brought in, about vehicle inspections. Inspections stations need a bunch of expensive equipment and he didn't have the money for it.

Well, now I need to find a new place. The interior's all ripped out (it's a race car, not a street cruiser) and I really don't want to have to put it all back in, just to satisfy a "by-the-book" inspection place, and then rip it all out again.

Anybody know how stringent the new inspection process is, for interior stuff?

Anybody know a "friendly" inspector, they could recommend to me, in Edmonton?

In case you're asking, I need to insure and license the vehicle, because I compete in performance rallying, and part of the competition (the non-competition part) is driving the vehicle on the open road.

Well, I've been talking to Val at R&S/Sun Toyota Autobody, and he seems like a pretty good guy to deal with. Tomorrow I'm dropping in to see him with the "Before" pictures of my car (need pictures taken before the buildup apparently) and then we start from there.

Hopefully, I can get the process completed in about a month of afterhours work.

Well, the dickhead at Alberta Transport won't let me re-certify the vehicle without the carpeting and headliner and all the plastic bits in the interior.

I'm hooped. I don't have all those pieces.

I have a beautiful 85 MR2, in incredible condition, and they won't let me drive it on the streets because I don't have the carpets. And I have a POS 86 MR2, dented rust bucket, and the government is absolutely fine with me driving that on our streets. Go figure..................(sigh)
