side exit exhaust - Click HERE for Original Thread

probetunerforlife
jimbo i was wondering if i changed my exhaust and made it a side exit if it is still legal or maybe you could post a link for me to look it up and find out thanl you in advance.

Flex
Well the way the law reads if you dont widen the exhaust opening or make it any louder there shouldnt be a problem.....says bo where in the law about where the opening has to come out.

NNHC
It is illegal, it has to come out at the back of the car, it is stated in the law. For normal passenger cars anyway.

How does that affect cars, such as the older Corvette Stingrays, that have side exit exhaust?

probetunerforlife
corvettes come stock with it dont they? if the do that is legal me going from back exit to side might not be legal

The first couple years of Vipers had side exhaust, the new ones have it also. You could also get an F-150 with side exhaust.

Why are you asking probetuner? Is you rear exit exhaust messing up all the downforce you gained from your ricer wing?

have fun trying to fit a muffler AND cat convertor under the car, and still have the exhaust exit b4 the rear wheel... isnt guna happen, unless u just use a single resinator ....then it will be loud as fuk, and illegal

probetunerforlife
what cat dont have one and ther is room for the muffler and a resantor if i want one but dont.

and for the sound level you guys need to research your mufflers key word being muffler dont want a shiny stainless ractive those are rice i want a dyno max heard it on a eclipse not loud barley here it.

and for the side exit that is for looks and also for less back presure do to less pipe so i dont have to run something stupid like a 3" exhaust on a for banger turbo.

Okay, come to an autoX some time. Put your money where your mouth is pal.

BTW: My Spec V has a light back end too. Do you think a big rice wing would add downforce? HAHAHAH :thefinger: :thefinger:

impulser
your Avitar kicks A$$ specv, Rice wings suck

probetunerforlife
my wing does and and is set on the lowest possible setting . for autox due to the lower speeds my wing would be useless and impare me and when my car is set up for autox i will see you there.

please define rice wing as i see whale type and most fiberglass wings as rice ?

and can we get back to the exhaust issue and save the calling out and other arguments for a different forum please.

I was just calling your bluff buddy.

You seriously need to take some english classes buddy. Your posts are painful to read. Anyways, I define a "rice wing" as either a big fiberglass monstrosity (although those have started fading away) or the maaaaad downforce adjustable aluminum peices of crap. There are such things as small tasteful spoilers, such as the ones that come stock on some cars.

This is an answer I am curious about as well. A few years back the requirement for exhaust exit was beyond the passenger compartment. IE. just infront of your rear axle (under the car), or side exit, just before your rear tire.

With a properly designed exhaust system, backpressure can be reduced (more hp and better fuel economy), while not increasing sound level by more than a couple dbs. Making it a good comprimise for the street. If it was a track-only car and being trailered, then go wild.

HAS THE LAW CHANGED REGARDING EXHAUST EXIT POINTS? (ya, I know, I'm showing my age....)

I ran side pipes on "The Snail" and "The Mule" until my sanity couldn't take it any more. Never got stopped or questioned about it. As long as the exhaust exits out from underneath the vehicle I BELIEVE it is legal. If the exhaust fails to exit past the exterior dimensions of the vehicle there is a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

thank you for the input i did not think it was it was illegal just needed some input from people and i know i can keep it quiet just need to run the right muffler.

MUFFLER? We don't need no stinking muffler! :D

I just had a resonator and 4 side pipe's. The four side pipe's is what make it obnoxious. If I had dual's out each side it might have been more tolerable. You would be smart to run a muffler if possible, I was limited for space because of the AWD.
