Some cops have no respect!! - Click HERE for Original Thread

HKSpowers
Well I am very respective towards the Edmonton Police, I mean what choice do we have but otherwise. They protect you and me 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Even if a crimes commited on our block mostly likely it wont affect us due to the swift reposonce and hanndling of our "careing" big brother.

Well today was an execption. I was at a Tim Hortons at Namao center half an hour ago with my grand father. Well i'll explain his situation he is 75 y/o and handicapped he cant walk a meter with out someone holding onto him. So you get the picture.
I pull up to Tims and theres no parking stalls and not one even resonably close where he could make the journey. So I park in the handicap stall. We go in which takes like 5 mintues and eat, while eatting I see this cop behind my car and shes writting me up a ticket. So I bolt out the door and explain why I had to park there and told her i'd move my car, she tells me straight up "I dont care your still getting a ticket" well whether you believe this or not is your call. So I plead with her before you pass judgment go and see my grandfather. So she says "he better be disabled" we go in and she sees he carries a cane and is very distrought over why i'm with a cop. She then tells me to go and park my car some where else so I do.
Now this is the part that really makes me MAD!! I come back in and sit down the cop I was talking with and her partner both sit down right behind me. What the female cop tells her partner who is a supervisor that "I dont think this young man wants us near him" He says "Your just doing your job he cant say anything" and they both go on and start gossiping about me talking about my car and my tattoos. And the last thing I caught was that she was going to do a "follow up" on me, like what the hells that!

As we leave I help my grand father up and it litteraly takes us 5 mintues again to just get to the door, at the door I have to both balance him and hold open the door the 2 cops look at me like I was a criminal and dont even offer to help me out, a nice young lady sitting close to the door jumps up to help me out, while big brother just sits and enjoys the circus show!!!!

I immediately went to the nearest police station to file a complaint and was told to call the main precient which I did and was told theyd be talk to about it. Come on thats it??

Well venting my anger and frustration at these two Edmonton Police Officers, I hope both of you loose your jobs, you are both on the force working for our community's and our elderly for the wrong reasons!!!

Thanks for listening to me

that is so stupid. i would pin it on them being assholes as individuals though. any decent person would help you open the door at least and not talk about you while you are sitting right there.. ah well i hope they actually listen to your complaint

REFLUX
yeah I hope they do something about that

but being a cop isn't easy anyways...you do run into a LOT of assholes and much of it rubs off
it's very difficult to not stereotype people

especially when a majority of the police force doesn't have anything more than a high school degree

Flex
I'm not trying to say anything bad towards you or anything so dont take this the wrong way, but I know alot of times if you hear 2 sides of the story the "teller" of the story always puts him/herself in the right.

Having said that if you were polite like your story states, their behavior was totally uncalled for and very unprofessional. I applaud you for actually going thru with filing a complaint. And I also know exactly what it is like to care for a handicapped family member as my father has been crippled from a stroke and also has trouble getting around, and I also applaud you for being there for your grandfather.....

Being a police officer is a tough job, but you can't treat everyone on your assumption of how you think they will be. They are a public servant and have to deal with the public on a regular basis and half their job is community PR. So they should have to go on courses for dealing with the public. I have had many jobs dealing with the public and yes I agree their are alot of assholes out their but you gotta take the good with the bad in that kinda job and have to expect your gonna deal with a ton of them being a cop. And you have to deal with everyone on a case by case basis and leave your "bad day" at home when you come to work. And they are especially bad as they can easily take out a bad mood or otherwise on "joe public" and 9 times out of 10 will get away with it. Work at any other job and treat a "customer" like that and see where it gets you.

Well thats my 2 cents and they get a huge...........

Ya tell me about it.
But every person must be treated individually regaurdless of race, nation, or creed.
And if they cant hanndle the heat stay ou tof the kitchen.
By that I mean if they cant hanndle dealing with a large amounts of assholes and recover to deal with the normal crowd then they need to find a new line of work.

I was with a 75 year old man not some 17 year old drug dealer. And even then who are they to judge whether or not I am a good person they havent even talked to me.

I'm gonna stop my ranting here.

Thanks for the reply's and your concerns!!!!! :)

Flex, very good post and no I dont take any "constuctive" critism offensivly but yes i do agree none of you were there and I am not looking for sympathy just venting my frustration. At the time no one was there to listen so I thought i'd type out my anger.

But i'm contempt about it now.

Thanks

straight from my criminology professor at the UofA who's been in law enforcement across the world serving much of his time in the good ol'USA

though I'm glad many more officers have higher levels of education, does everyone good :)

you know brandon.. no offence intended at all but they're assholes b/c you're asian and they feel that's justified... cause you have tats and a nice ride they think you're some gang banger.. cops are so stupid and clueless.. i'm glad you filed a report. Kudos!

Yeah man, sorry to hear that.

Before I even read this I was going to say that it'd have something to do with the tats and the car.

Don't you wish you could spend one day that cop in the gym, LOL. Stay strong, don't back down.

trying to stay on topic
but do you think harassment from police officers in the USA would be worse/more stereotyped than in Canada?

I haven't heard/read of many stories regarding this kind of stuff on US based forums...

Flex
Another point to ask....from you guys that do have tats (I have some to) do you find you get treated differently because you have them???? All my tats can be covered up by a t-shirt. So I can totally see the difference, if i wear a sleeveless t-shirt and my tats show I get treated alot different.......never seen by a cop yet though. But i have gone to a store and gone to the same lady at the counter with and without my tats showing and been treated differently. Anyone else noticed this?

 Brandon for sticking up for your rights.

Police tearing up the ticket after taking the time to assess the situation

Unprofessional comments/conduct in public by a police officer

Some of the less dedicated big brothers forget that being a police officer is to act in the service of the public, and that means taking responsibility and acting objectively. Their comments from what you described certainly sounded subjective and unprofessional, possibily discrimatory.

How so? do you get more respect or ppl more wary?

Flex
I find that I dont get the friendly service when they show. It seems I just get stared at and no smile just a blank look.

For example, the esso by my house I go in there quite abit. The same lady is working the counter. If I go in with a t-shirt on shes a nice as pie, friendly and chatty. I have gone in with a muscle shirt on and a hat and sunglasses and she just takes my money and stares at me like im gonna steal something, no hello, oer have a nice day.....and this has happened to me on other ocassions as well with other people.....now i watch to see peoples reactions.

lol sounds like fear... :D

HKSpowers
I have noticed a difference in how people first react when I approch them, but once they get talking with me they quickley realize I am a really nice guy and the tat's are just a way of me expressing my individualty or there really scared i'm some asian gangster whos about to kill them :P

Any how, I just hate being descriminated against but what can we do? I mean its the typical steriotype what we get labeled with and it was my descision to get my tattoos done and drive my nice car, it just wasent my descision to be who I am, and be the nice guy that I am but yet be looked upon like all the rest.
I just have to live with it and smile.

I lived in NJ for a while and down there they vote in their pollice chiefs. So for example, they ahve no photo radar there becasue why? The people don't want it so if any police chief brought it in, htey would be voted out. That's also another reason why they don't treat citizens liek shit there, and they get a lot more respect from normal people in the states than up here, because they arn't out giving BS tickets and being ignorant.
