Most Wanted hit-list - Click HERE for Original Thread

SpecV_Ryder2
well guys, fron the page yesterdays paper about the EPS service cracking down Edmontons worst drivers and putting them on their most wanted hit list. That's right, you heard me right, most wanted hit list with people who's "got stacks of traffic violation tickets, Impaired driving and driving while on suspension". :o

They are gonna be "following" the individuals and I guess one little mess up and god knows the penalty. I believe they want to get "rid" of those drivers off the road. This campaign is gonna kick off sometime the following week.

what do you think guys?...I know most of you have already been followed for no reason and now I guess anything that looks suspicious, they are gonna scan-pull over you're ass and look for anything illegal.

(schlong69)..wanna find out more info about this?

I would if I could....I do not have access to that info anymore. Sorry!

btw- it sounds like a great idea to me though.....because there are so many people with several tickets and have horrible driving records.

I was watching the news and they were talking about one person who had like 38 tickets and 13 other charges. 38 tickets :stupid: :wtf: why are they still driving. That person obviously has little regard for the laws and safety. You would think that simply having that many offences would have earned you a few licence suspensions already. The whole thing smells a little funny to me. Now through the media frenzy and lack of public questioning on this matter expect to be pulled over more often and with less cause. All of this attention can lead to abuse, hopefully not though. I'll say it again if you have 10 people that bad that you are going to target them why are they still driving? Kind of makes the whole driving being a privilege/right issue a little muddy.

SpecV_Ryder2
38 tickets  ...damn..no wonder our insurance rates are so high.

well, from the article that I read last night, they are gonna out full force next coming week about their campaign. I do kinda agree in a way, but I believe the stereo typical of pulling over modified cars is what I think they are going to scan over first( Drug dealers they might assume)..but then again, they can pull over it be.

I know sometime next week they'll be alot of post and pissed of people here getting tagged by the EPS..

I have two tickets.... does this mean I'm gonna get harrassed by these guys....

yes, sexually, that lovely french r.c.m.p friend of yours will put you in a cell for misbehaving :thefinger:

I think it's a great idea, especially the ppl with records of several impaireds or accidents/tickets... i betcha all the top hit list ppl are white males over 35... so why are us younger guys gettin nailed?

redbaron303
Because all the old guys can afford good lawyers.... hahahaha and we can't :(

The over-representation of those with the means to retain excellent lawyers will certainly exclude them from the hit list. It is true, young drivers with mild to wild modified cars will be targeted to a greater extent then they are already.

The problem is, it's a Catch 22. If they maintain the status quo, traffic fatalities continue to rise - if they decide to crack down, they are (arguably) beginning to impinge on the civil liberties of individuals who might be clean drivers.

It's the common refrain of policing. How to protect the interests of the public while respecting their Charter - sponsored Rights.

HOWEVER, I think this campaign is a short-sighted reaction to this year's abnormally high traffic fatality rate. A better approach would be an intensive education program from early childhood; bring back the gruesome educational videos they had in the Fifties. That, COUPLED with a proactive on-the-streets campaign would be a better idea than a simple, authoriatarian crack down on the drivers with long reaching records.

Just my two cents :)

Is it targetted at people with outstanding tickets or just tickets in general.

redbaron303
I think the shit's about to hit the fan.....

I hope they don't mess around w/ us young guys who've had one or two minor tickets.... :(

What I'd like to know is, how exactly are the cops going to find and watch these 10 cars every day? There is 1 million people in Edmonton and area, so even if only 1 in 4 people drives to work, that's 250,000 cars a day on the roads in Edmonton. How do you find 10 people in 3 full Commonwealth Stadiums?

Are they going to sit at the end of their street, wait for them to back out of their driveways, and then follow them to work? That's called harrassment, and the "lucky" 10 could sue the cops' a$$es off for that.......

So, exactly how are the cops going to do it? Big secret for you: THEY AREN'T.

The whole thing is a media blitz to scare the bad drivers and falsely bring some reassurance to the good drivers. The cops are scamming us once again into believing that they're doing some good for us, while they're actually sitting at Tim's having a 3rd jelly donut or dressing up in a bear costume to visit my kid's elementary school and tell them not to do drugs............

superpirate25
The front page of the Sun said "Cops make list of citys worst drivers" First thing I thought when I read that was that the cops themselves were on the list of the worst drivers. After reading the article I realized what the real story was although my assumption would have made more sense than this BS they are trying to pull. I agree, these people should be off the streets, but why don't they just take their licenses away rather than harrass them and release their info to the public?

SplineZ
They should just boot their cars up and make'm take public transportation to work..

it'd be cheaper, and keep'em off the roads :)

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Mandatory driver's training/testing every few years. Why? People forget things and need to be reminded of how the rules of the road work. On the way to the gym, I just had someone trying to merge onto Yellowhead at 60 km/h when the posted speed limit is 100 km/h and there's heavy traffic flying by.

I knew how to speak and understand french when I lived out in Ontario. After 10 years here in Etown, I can barely understand the language. :( A course to refresh my memory would help a great deal. Understand where I'm going with this?

If retraining is what it's going to take for the roads to be safer, so be it. It could also mean lower insurance.

SpecV_Ryder2
I do agree with Kato about retraining young drivers...and I do think we see alot of 17-18 years old behind a wheel, they go bananas thinking they're quick of the start and go cutting in and out of traffic. one accident that I was involved in was on a sumer friday night and I notice a BMW i think, full of kids..probably dad's ride..and when I passed the vehicle, the driver wasn't even concentrating on the road...so when I got to 109st just before turning left onto white ave(heavy traffic )I looked in th erear view mirror and notice the same car coming fast!..the f@cker couldn't react intime to slow down so he basically rams into me!..man I was pissed, ..just seeing that car and bracing myself being hit. and I couldn't move ot of the way cause the other side was full of cars. I bolted out of the car so fast and when I got to his window, I wanted to bash his head on his steering wheel..but I held meself back resorting to violence..but that goes to show alot of negligence on the road.

I'm not saying we're perfect on the road, but for some reason, other people take theor driving previledges for granted..(insurance rate SOOO high cause of all these horrific/accidents)... ...maybe the EPS is just trying to scare us or I hope they can get rid some of these cowboys of the road. from what I read, I guess they have files and their infracture accounted for...

well, less cruise for me on white ave, and I know i'll be harrased...every modified cars out there, I guarantee they'll harrased. o.k. if they do pull them over wouldn't it just defeat the purpose of getting rid of these drivers by giving them MORE tickets?..what are they gonna do?, have a bunch of tow trucks ready on hand to haul out these drivers?..I dunno..maybe this could just be a scare.

just one thing though, I hate being tailgated by them or when they drive up soooo fast just to scan your licence frame?.. :gay: ...give yourself a ticket instead cause if I slam on my brakes and rear end me how would I now if it's a cop and not someone else?.. :thefinger: I'm sure of you agree abou this.

Nightstalker
You would have to think racing tickets have to get you bumped up the list big time.. If they count photo radar my car has to be on there.. but its registed to my mom so BOOYA, the fuzz don't got nothing on me ...

Al36rx7
This one of the few ideas that I completely support on this thread....Driver training / retest. Not just the young, but everyone. Every five years when you go to renew your license...You take a test. Not just the theory, but also the actual behind the wheel test.

There are way too many people on the roads that have no bloody concept of what "merging into traffic means", people with only one working brake light, yes the little stick on the side of the steering column makes the little blinky thing work...hey, the rest of the people driving around you want to know what the hell you're planning to do, I could on for quite awhile.....Yet, again, I'm sure there is the odd person that thinks I'm too aggressive in traffic.

If you can't pass a test...GET OFF THE ROAD!!! The rest of us want to make it home tonight. I guess I'm a bit pasionate about this one. I've come too close on numerous times because kids are paying too much attention to their friends in the car or the old fart that blows the stop sign. You come to a tire smoking/squealing stop, and the guy doesn't even notice you.

Good luck with the EPS starting another quota campain...hopefully you won't become targets....unless you deserve it.

This would be the reason the I upgraded the brakes on my car before anything else was even a consideration.
