Its the stupidest law in the world and we all know it...I got the ticket about 4 months ago...and i havent changed my exhaust, but i havent gotten pulled over again...has this law died out a bit?..probably not...

I'm just curious as too how many people have gotten the tickets...and how many people have gotten them recently..

and also..since the law states no actual numbers in size of the outlet at all, how the hell to cops determine if u get a ticket or not? only if it doesnt look like the right size in their eyes? there are tons of people with pick up trucks and shit with enlarged outlets of their exhausts and a cop could never tell just cuz it looks like the truck has a stock big exhaust...thats gay....

im also wondering if any dumb ass cop has pulled over someone with a 2003 tiburon or any other car that comes with a stock 3 inch tip(s).

i know people wont shut up about this and sorry if this topic has been overdone and has gotten annoying

Not too long ago, someone posted on here about how they got pulled over for it on their stock Subaru WRX Sti.

write a letter to someone that might accually do something about it.

:wtf: I have gotten Two tix's for my SIR in Sherwood Park.

I talked to my MLA and found out that if you muffler tip is larger than your inlet...

They can give you a ticket.

This is only for sound, the Cop's are worry we all will have nicer car's than there's.

silverTEG
dumbest law ever. well next to no sex in the champagne room.

Funny thing is on my Ford diesel I have a 4" downpipe from the turbo and 5" all the way back, no muffler. Never had a second look about it.

i'm sure they're just spewing jealousy.
i mean, when they pull over a teenager in his 1994 Pontiac Sunbird all "tricked out" with shit like neon wiper nozzles, chopped springs, engines with over 200 000k on them and HUGE fart cannons that do f@ck all except make WAY too much noise.....yeah i bet the want to trade pink slips right then and there....

ROFL!!

I have Dual 3" exhaust pipes on my 89 5.0 mustang, loud as hell. Never had a problem. I can't beleive a cop pulled over an STI for his stock muffler LOL. Guess he really knows his cars.

It is not that loud unless I am really getting on it, the turbo tends to quieten it down. It has a 5" resonator on it so it is possible that I could get stopped for being to loud, but it is 5" all the way back so what part of the exhaust have I widened?

scooby_dooby
nope, haven't got an exhaust ticket for a long time, 3 months at least, i think they've eased off a little. especially with the fines goin up, not sure if exhaust and tint went up though, i think they're finding it harder to justify random exhaust tickets foir people doing nothing wrong.

SilverZ24
I still think it is stupid because my car came stock with a muffler with a 2" inlet and 2" outlet and then flared to a 3" tip. That is straight from GM's factory in Ohio. How could that possibly be illegal?

if it's stock it's not illegal, illegal is "enlarged"

This guys post is why I mentioned my stock setup. I agree with your interpretation.

And I did have two cops pull me over and tried to give me the ticket but I convinced them that it truely was stock and they reluctantly didn't give me a ticket...

cept dont u have the Stans catback exhaust calvin?

SilverZ24
It was off for the winter and I actually got pulled over in the spring before I put the Stan's back on. The Stan's is virtually the same, only 2.5" inlet and outlet and a 3.5" tip. If I ever get a ticket with the aftermarket one, I am just going to take a picture of my stock setup on the car (looks identical except for size) and take it in along with a 2002 Cavalier brochure to show that it came stock like that. I'm sure the ticket would never stay. :D

One thing I would like to know is. The law states an enlarged opening. If my stock exhaust had 2 smaller tips coming out and now I have one larger tip. My question is if I measure the area of the 2 openings and add that together...and measure the area of the one opening...and they are the same area....does my one larger tip still constitute a larger opening????

ya, that law's so vague it never once defines the term enlarged. i think it was written this way for a reason, so they have flexibility when issuing tickets.

i think that if you calculated surface area before and after, and if there wasn't an increase then the judge would probably have to toss the ticket, since enlarged waas never defined that means it's open to interpretation. and that is a VERY logical interpretation, that enlarged would mean more surface area, or volume.
